Sorry about the position they put you in.
I did call an optional meeting for everyone to attend to express their reservations and concerns with this promotion, if they have any. All 10 accepted. They aren't going to push this past us without a fight. We're meeting Monday, I'll keep you guys posted.

Just one more piece of advice.

I know you and the other guys are angry right now (rightfully so if I understand the situation correctly), but be careful not to burn any bridges. If you quit, do it professionally and without emotion. Bend over backwards to be polite. For all you know there's one moron (maybe not even your boss - but maybe his boss or higher) that dreamed this up. If it fails he might be gone. If that happens and you've left a bad taste in everyone's mouth, they might not call you back (even though they know they were wrong).

Good luck and I hope it works out.

jk007, this is not yer first post about being screwed over by yer current employer. What do they have to do to get you really pissed off? They keep pulling yer chain and cutting off the paycheck what seems to be about every 6 months. Why would you stay there? Is there something in Detroit that you just can't leave? Why not look at other jobs and interview with a head hunter- it costs you nothing and you might just find an employer that isn't going to screw you over every 6 months. So you MIGHT have to relocate. The hiways aren't going to disappear and there are still airlines that can take you back if you need to be in Detroit for something. I think you've become co-dependent on this company.

I am kind of stuck in Detroit unfortunatelty. I am the oldest of 4 siblings. Our father passed a little over a year ago and I am kind of the glue that is holding the rest of my family together. My oldest sister is going through a divorce with 3 kids and about to lose her house, my youngest brother (20) just became a father to a child from a girl he can't stand also. Both are young and dumb, so we are always relied upon to help out. Our mother lives in FL so me and the wife are always the "go to's"... Both our families are here in MI also. I've never been one to turn my back on family, somewhat of a weakness I guess. My grandmother is very sick also (Dad's mother) and right now her daughter takes care of her (my Aunt). But she was just diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing treatment, so I try to help her out and my gradmother as much as possible as well.

But in addition to that, I own 2 houses that can't be sold for anything near their worth, so I live in one and rent the other one out, which makes managing 2 rentals difficult especially from another state.

As far as the job goes, it does have some advantages also (six figure potential that is achievable without selling your soul, matching 401K, full benefits, ability to work from home on some days). When you have 2 kids and a wife that stays home, these things are hard to dismiss when that stability is already there.

I have looked at other companies and have had a couple of interviews, but nothing has come close to my current employer. I have turned down a couple of offers because they weren't worth it. I don't even need to make a lateral move, I'd take a pay cut, but not to the extent that these other positions have offered.

So, while I know it is ultimately my decission to keep my family in this state, it is just not feesable to move at this point in time when look at everything collectively I have going on. Plus, I have an outstanding judgement from deadbeat renters that I am trying to collect on also, about $2,500, but that's not really even a factor. I could easily leave that behind.

Honestly, if I just had the one house and knew my sister would be OK with her 3 kids, I'd probably be out of here. I guess I am just riding this wave until things self correct with MI's economy. By then, I am hoping things with my family also improve. These are the primary reasons. :o

I'm sure there's more to it than those numbers. If not, need to get me an application. Oh wait, we are talking about Detroit.....no thanks.

- Yes, belive it or not, it is true. $360K = six figures with these guys. Here's the catch though, I sell research and books, and it is a 12 month subscription service. I sell access (usernames and passwords) to a databse of info. Basically all the cliff notes to all the complex Tax and SEC regulations out there. I make anywhere from 10%-25% of my total sale, depending on if I am at my quota for the month.

However, 90% of my sales are straight up cold calling. And, I get no residual income. So, if I sell a $10,000 library, i'll make 10%-25% of that. But, if the customer decides at the end of 12 months to renew the product again, I don't see a dime. The company gets all that revenue. And we have a 96% retention rate also, so belive me, it is very common for a customer to renew that same service 6,7,8 years in a row. You can pretty much do the math on that from a company standpoint. That's why they can afford to pay us so much on the initial sale, because they areprobably going to see that same amount 5 or 10 fold down the road.

For sure on not being able to get the value on your home. I seen those $1 detroit houses on the news and youtube. I can only image the percentage your home value has dropped from what you paid.

I seen a couple videos on youtube of driving through metro detroit. Homes that are beat to hell, probably worth $1-500 with new or couple year old vehicles parked out front. Funny.

Well fellas, I did it. After 7 years with my current employer, I landed another gig. I am so happy right now, you would think I just bought another f150.

I start my new position April 12th, puttin' in my 2 weeks on Monday. It's not even noon yet and I am already 3 beers in.

Just thought I would share the good news. I know a few of you have heard my b*tch about my current situation and being in Michigan, job opportunities aren't exactly plentiful.

Awesome man, that was BS you had to deal with a couple months ago.

I'm kinda dealing with the same crap you had to deal with, except I'm getting shifted sideways. I'm an accountant that helps with closing every month and issuing financials. Because our Accounts Receivable person is going to be out (possibly permanently) I have to fill in until further notice. I'm so ticked off, words can't describe. This isn't the position I applied for and I'm not getting paid any more.
