If you send an e-mail to Apple, they can de-authorize your old computer, authorize your new one, and possibly allow you to re-download the songs you purchased. This would be the easiest.

If not, and if you have the songs on your iPod and connect it to a PC, the songs are there, you just have to dig around in the iPod directory structure. The file names will look weird, but you should be able to rename them using a TAG-FILENAME conversion (I use MP3TAG).

You can also use a program called copypod. That's what I used whenever my computer dumped, now I just have it all saved on an external HDD.

Download the program named Podlift off of download.com. It is by far the easiest and most effective program I've found. You will be able to remove all of your songs, playlists, videos, podcasts, etc from your IPod. I've used it numberous times with great results.
