Be careful what truck line you use. Some more may be going out of business. Maybe you should rent a uhaul and hire someone to pack it for you, and then hire someone to unpack it when you get there.
I know for a fact that some moving companies hire loaders and unloaders through local Employment offices. I know a few young men that work for them occasionally. I think you may be happier if you hire them yourself.

that would suck. they pack up your house and go out of business. then its................wheres my furniture? except the phone is disconnected.

i have seen these ABF trucks around. just dont know anyone who has used them. i understand they drop the trailer at your house a couple days before and then pick up and drive to new location. drop it there and a give you a couple days to un pack.

gonna have to pay or call on friends. this back aint moving nothing. its been a month since surgery. feels better but still hurts. with 2 discs removed and the 3 above herniated my picking stuff up days are over (for a while at least)

Another option is, do what a friend did and look on some trucker's forums. There are a lot of hungry independant drivers with trucks and box trailers that are itching for something to move.

You be surprised as to what deals you find... some will do it for almost the price of fuel.

Also another one you might want to consider is http://www.atlasworldgroup.com/ or http://www.mayflower.com/moving/

They aren't bad... in fact, they got special moving box trailers that are longer and wider than the average 53' trailer...

It may be possible to get an independent that way. But you would probably end up paying for them to dead head one way or the other.

If I'm not mistaken ABF is "Arkansas Best" Located in Northern Arkansas. I do believe they are in good financial shape. I'll see if I can reach a friend of mine and ask him about them.

DO NOT use Atlas.

When I moved long distance a couple of years ago they pulled a fast one. Truck arrived at 5pm on a Friday (office is closed) and they demanded an addiitonal $1000 or they would not unload the truck.

I have a wife and 2 young kids and we need to get their stuff off that truck.

Try getting that money back whenyou sign the contract to unload the truck at the higher rate.

Atlas are ripoff artists.

I just did that exact move. Mine was military, so free fro me, but they came and packed me up, then loaded everything. Delivered it about a week later.
If you want, I can look at the papers and get the company names.
They did a great job, went through everything, and nothing was broken.

From: back in Seattle
my wife & I have moved from Seattle to Atlanta & back to Seattle in 3 years. Both times we rented a 26' Penske truck with a car trailer for about $1500. We looked into ABF, but they wanted $3300.

always ask if they have specials, my wife talked to Penske online, and got them down $200, and also got $50 worth of moving supplies when we picked up the truck.
