E-150 help!!!

I have a 1993 F-150 flareside and parked it when I bought a 1999, E-150 Econoline van. Is there any help here for a problem with the van? If so, please reply with the following problem.

I had to replace the thermostat. To get to the cover bolts, I had to unplug the Camshaft sensor. When I plugged the connector back into the sensor, the rubber band inside the female connector was loose and would not go back onto the male sensor end. I had to discard the rubber band for the connector to snap in place onto the male sensor end. I then noticed the 4 (ground) wires that were coming out of the back of the connector had all been touching together and not seperated.

It was like this had been redone by someone that had just jammed the 4 wires into the plastic connector piece. I put all the parts back together and tried to start the motor, but there was nothing but engine turn over. After reading up in the repair manual about the camshaft sensor, the only thing that I can think of that is not working, is the correct connector sequence into the camshafter sensor receptacle.

Anybody ever have this problem. I mean, how hard is it to replace a thermostat on any FORD?

Your best bet would be to go to the dealer, get a replacement connector and the pin out diagram. Splice in the new the connector and re-test. If it was running before it IS most likely your problem.

It is the 4.2L, with over 224,000 on it. Just to mention, I sprayed some electrical degreaser all over the sensor and the connectors. Would this cause a problem other than the connectors?

he has a 93 so its most likely a 5.0 or a 5.8. They are not near as easy to work on

The new connector seems to be the quick fix. Thanks Paralyzer! The sensor replacement is a tough one to attempt, although it is only 2 bolts to unsrew! Getting to the bolts is the hard part!!

I took the connector off and will replace it. However, since the three wires were all touching each other, have I damaged the sensor when I tried to fire the engine?

FUNNY! BTW.... I changed the connector and installed a new camshaft position sensor, and the van still won't start. The old sensor looked like it got melted a bit. Anyone got a clue where I go next with the diagnosis?
