Easy now. My friend bought one for his BIL bday and the black started flaking off BEFORE HE COULD GIVE IT TO HIM!

That's a GREAT knife. I had mine for quite a while before I lost it. My only issue with it was the blade powder coating started chipping with only a little use.

^ that's why I'm not a fan of black blades. In this case though, S&W tactical knife is black to be stealthy. The same reason Glocks are black. To not reflect light!

The "tenifer" treatment on GLOCKs turns the slide black. They are not coated or painted. but it also makes them very non reflective of light

I had a S&W watch and after 2 months the black coating was flaking off already and by about 8 months, the finish was 100% gone on the underside and half way on the outside.

That's sort of what I meant in fewer words. I did not say they painted Glocks...

I've got the Gerber EZ-Out DPSF, Non-slip Grip, S30V Black Blade, ComboEdge...

3 things I love about it:

1. The black finish doesn't have any scratches or deterioration even after sawing trees, drywall, and other nasty materials.
2. Being that the blade is made from high quality Crucible Particle Metallurgy S30V powdered steel has a long lasting edge, superior chip resistance, and it is very corrosion resistant.
3. The edge is really easy using a diamond sharpener. And I can still shave with it after cutting into drywall.

nice knife. i prefer to stick with benchmade or spyderco. both of mine have been through hell and show no signs of wear.

My Bad, thought you were comparing a GLOCKs slide to the coating on knives
