Got a ticket lastnight, need to vent
6:30pm lastnight, speed limit 45mph, there's a 2000 Toyota car in front of me. We're approaching railroad tracks and he ALMOST comes to an abrupt stop, so I stop like 2 feet from him. He lets off his brake and slams it on again and comes to a complete stop right in front of the tracks so I stop real hard again. There's no need to slow down for these tracks, he's a local guy and should know that. As I cleared the tracks I proceeded to pass the car on the left, I almost didn't do it since I saw headlights coming at me a little ways away. So I floored it and got up next to him and realized he floored it too!! I was making headway against him but not very quickly. The headlights coming at me were getting closer so I slowly merged back into our lane completely realizing that he looked only inches away from my bumper in my side mirror. So basically he tried not to let me pass him and he wouldn't back off. Now he's following me, and about 3 miles down the road he's still behind me and we're in the next City now too. I look in my mirror and I see/hear a cop trying to catch up to us and he pulls us over. Cop comes up to my window and asks why I hit that car and took off, I'm like whaaat! Aparently the Toyota guy called the cops and they tracked us down. My exhaust tip and the corner of my rear bumper scrapped against the Toyota as I tried to merge. I had no idea, and the cop believed me there. He said I'm lucky to not be going to jail for hit and run. I didn't see his car so probly just a nice scratch. So all I got cited for was passing in a no passing zone. Not sure how much it'll cost yet. I wonder if the other guy will fix the scratch thru his insurance company, is it actually worth the deductable? I'll talk to mine this afternoon. Besides passing in a no passing zone, was I in the wrong? Thoughts? Opinions?
Thanks for letting me vent! Justin http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i9...E/PB190101.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i9...E/PB190102.jpg |
That's about as messed up as me getting a seatbelt violation a few days ago from a motorcycle officer that was driving the exact opposite direction as I was at about 40MPH. He must have eyes like a damn hawk and be able to multifunction like no other.

You got hosed. But you're going to have to take your lumps.
Don't ya hate having to deal with aholes on the highway:ll: |
Sounds like you are at fault.
Sounds like he is an ***hole. |
In FL passing vehicles have Right of Way so it would be his fault, but not all states have that law.

It requires an almost impossible level of patience to deal with drivers like the one you encountered. They violate every common courtesy and common sense principle you can think of, and when we lose our patience we often end up in the hot seat, and in an indefensible position. What argument do we have? In your case, you passed in a no passing zone and [technically] hit another vehicle in the process. On paper it looks really bad for you, so fine will probably be paid, and points will be levied. All because another driver's lack of ignorance tested your patience beyond its limits. Thankfully nobody was hurt, and no other vehicles ended up involved.

Hindsight is wonderful.
What you should have done, instead of cutting him off to get back in, is hit the brakes and pulled back in behind him. You are both guilty of road rage. |

If one lacks ignorance, does that get them into MENSA? |

It's not who is guilty. It's who calls the police first that wins.
BTW, would not have happened with a 5.4L |

Yep, I do, in fact, I live on a road where the speed limit is 45 (which means most go about 50.) I regularly get behind this bimbo that doesn't know how to read road signs and drives 30-35 at the fastest. I have thought about passing her, but around the corner from me is a former student of mine who is a Ohio State Highway Patrolman. I do not want to meet him on a professional business...

Actually I planned on test driving the new XLT and the FX4 tomorrow. |
That is how everyone drives here. When I moved here 8 years ago I hated it and now even more. One guy does 60 in a 90 zone and still can't keep in the lines.
