Augmentin 875 mg

First off, I'd like to appologize to anyone if I offended them in the past couple days (since Thursday)... I might have said some interesting things or had weird feelings about certain subjects. I just felt that some of the stuff I said may have been due to the meds. Again, sorry.

Anyhow... Anyone ever have a bacterial sickness (like a middle ear infection, strep throat, etc) that required Augmentin 875 or equivelent?

I've been on it since Thursday morning, and it cleared up my ear infection quickly. However, I've been having hot flashes/sweats at least once a day for about an hour (temp going all the way up to ~102.7F then back down to normal)... to depression and lack of concentration. Plus it's hard for me to move around and even walk. I feel so drained and I feel wierd, but coincidently much better that my ear no longer hurts.

They originally wanted me to take 500 mg of Tylenol and 600 mg of Motrin every 3 hours alternating. That was fine for the first 2 days, now it just kills me to take it like that and it leaves me with a temperature of as low as 97.2F and I worse. So now I've just been monitoring my temp every hour and watching it so it doesn't go above 100F. If it's at 100F for more than an hour I'll take 1 200 mg Motrin to bring down the fever; however it varies, sometimes I don't even need to take any.

It seems like it gets worse right before my next course and suddenly disappears right before I take the next pill. It's really odd.

I was reading online, and it's normal for these side effects -- hence why the Dr. didn't mine telling me to take a bunch of NSAID fever reducers. Although I'm finding that just monitoring it and regulating how much of the fever reducer I take, is better off. It's annoying, but I'd rather be at around 98.6F all day long rather than at 100F or 97F.

It just sucks feeling depressed and not able to move much. But at least it is do a wonderful job at cleaning me out.

It is in the penicillin family.
All I can say about Augmentin is that I am allergic to it. I break out into a rash when I took it.

From doing a few hours of research on it... that stuff is some pretty strong stuff. And yes, if you are allergic to any Penicillin, Augmentin will be the worst as far as causing a severe reaction.

you do realize 98.6 is just an average right? your normal temp might actually be around 97. i know i usually run a little cooler than 98.6.

you have an infection. the bodies way of dealing with that is fever. this will leave you feeling light headed and what not.

You don't have to take the tylenol and motrin. Unless the fevers really bother you, just let them come and go as they please. You aren't going to do any damage with an elevated temp. Just monitor it. If it gets really high, take something, but 103s are a dime a dozen where I used to work. Just make sure you stay hydrated. That will help you the most. When your body runs fevers, it burns off more water, so it will dehydrate you. Which usually leaves you feeling fatigued. It will pass, sooner or later. Just rest and stay hydrated.

Augmentin is a combo drug. The Amoxicillin in it would be the no no if you are allergic to pcn.
