All Law Enforcement Personnel - Boot Preference
All Law Enforcement Personnel - Boot Preference
To all the Law Enforcement personnel out there......I am looking for a new pair of boots to be used on patrol. What do all of you prefer for your footwear? I am mostly conducting routine vehicle patrol with some limited foot patrol on our bike paths added in (probably 15% of the time). I am looking at a 6" boot, don't like the boots too high or too low, so I think the 6" is for me. What brands of boots do all of you prefer?
Thanks guys/gals...

I just got a pair of Magnum Response II boots mine however are the 8in boot but it fits my personal preference. Not sure on how much your looking to invest in boots but try taking a look at the new Bates with the adjustable pad in the heel. I used to wear a pair of red wing boots which I still have yet to find any boot as comfortable as those. As well as the 5.11 series boots, they are supposed to be some real nice and durable boots.
Alts, Bells, and Wells.
I have had the same few pairs for 4 years. Barely any scuffs. Of course mine are Military, they sell some that could be used for LE.
Altama, Bates, Belleville, Rocky, and Wellco are all boot companies Army and Marines get their boots from.
I worn all and all have stood up very well and comfortable with keeping the tactical look and sturdiness. Converse make some comfy boots but lose the tactical look and the ruggedness of the other boots. Plus they usualy have a stupid converse logo that is all glossy.
I don't want to bash I am not. But MIL Spec boots would probably stand up better than boots that are not. I say this because they are conformed for ruggedness that soldiers, marines, etc go through. Lot's of walking, running, sand, rock, snow, mud, and water. I just think IMHO that these boots would be although more uncomfortable, better constructed. Of course in the black you would most likely need.

Ones I currently use. None LE specific.

Rocky boots have "duty" boots for all types of service.

Welco doesnt specifically make LE boots but theere are boots that would fit the criteria.

Bates does make LE specific boots.

Same wit ALT no LE specific, but many that would do the job.

I have been wearing Oakley boots for about 4 years now and love them. Really comfortable. Go to this website below and provide them with some verification that you are LE and you will get big discounts on all sorts of Oakley stuff (boots, ballistic lenses, etc). The discount on the boots was almost $100.

LOL oakly doesn't contract with the military for anything but special issue protective glasses. Or if a soldier goes out and buys boots on his own like the converses. None are issue however.
Oak's look good though. 100 bucks not bad disc. But dam, how much are those boots if you get 100 bucks dis!?

When I was an FNG I did like everybody else and wore the tall Magnums. Later I switched to plain ole black hightop type boot from Sears.
Now, the Chief Deputy has made a wise decision (not) and is going to make us wear either the coroframs you get when you are hired or buy your own "parade shine" type boot. I can do self purchase until Jan 09 and be re-emberrsed up to $100. I'm NOT wearing those painful coroframs.

Some of these companies have shoes that are made outside of the USA. And they'll cost nearly the same as the shoe made here. No point in supporting foreign made goods when you have a choice.
Shop for shoes that are made in the USA.

all I had to do was fax them a copy of my ID card.
Another outstanding vote for the Oakleys!!!! Will never wear another pair. Bellviews just don't like my feet, but I've had outstanding results with Danners...but nothing beats an Oakley. Issued or not, I will wear Oakleys even paying for them out of my own pocket.
And why did it have to LEP?? Maybe just a couple other organizations that put good boots to the test that could add significantly to this thread

I must have missed something funny but I never said oakley contracted with the military . I did have a pair issued however. bought my other 2 pair myself though. my last pair were $200 at the bx in kuwait but I got them for $108ish shipped. made in the usa

For instance, Oakley and Converse were banned by the Commanding general at Ft. Riley. Because the logos were not uniform in appearance with other soldiers boots and it also had a lack of professional appearance. Also, there was no proof it was combat and field tested. If the boots failed the soldier in combat there is a problem.

well I have been issued both oakley and converse boots (the ones with the side zipper...awesome) by the military. as well as many other squads of troops from other bases around the world that I have deployed with. so I am sorry maybe you just mean that base commander doesn't allow them but the military does issue oakley and converse to troops.
