Leasing

Hey Guys, it's been awhile.

Well I've been driving my Explorer for about a year now... and like the rest of my vehicles, I'm ready for a change. I'm 21 years old and I'm on my 5th vehicle, and NOT because I've wrecked any of them. I've decided that I REALLY need to be leasing vehicles rather than buying them and basically trading them in for what I owe on them.

I'd really like to get back into a truck, and especially a new F150. How much are some of you guys paying to lease the new F150?

Dont have a new one but the past two leases I did where on a '99 and an '02. Got the '99 new for $359 a month (dont recall the sell price on this one). It was an exyended cab XLT. The '02 was an XLT Screw, got it new and paid $429 a month - 21,xxx.xx (out the door). All the leases I had, had the option at the end to re-finace and buy it out right. Good luck.

If you think you need to lease to be able to afford the monthly payments, you are overextending yourself. Unless you have a business where you can get a tax advantage by leasing, it's not a good deal.

Leasing is only a good thing for 2 reasons,

If you only plan to have the car for a short time

or

If the value of the particular car has shown to drop like a rock

I married into a lease that come to find out was one of those that was taxed as personal property. That was a rude awakening. Needless to say it was gone in less than 24 hours of receiving the notice. Leases are fine for some people just not me. I know this didnt help you, just had to share me experience.

I've leased 6 vehicles from ford thru ford credit. Leasing can be a good deal, it allows you to get more vehicle for your money. There is a downside to leasing, if you drive a lot of miles a year like 17K and up it would probably be cheaper to purchase than to add on the extra miles. Also if you decide to keep a vehicle you have leased, your gonna pay for it.

FYI ford credit allows to purchase extra miles at the beginning of the lease and you can sell back miles if you don't need them. In other words is you only drive say 9K a year you can have you allowable miles reduced to lower your monthly payment. Ford will adjust your annual miles in 1500 mile increments, from the minimum of 10.5K up 18K. I had my mileage reduced to 10.5K on my 05 FX4 and my lease was $296/mo for a 36K truck.

Sounds like the OP may be in this boat.......

Another gas crisis ( ) or employee pricing deal will kill the '09's value like it did to the F150's a few years back - although it seems the 04-08's have come back up in value some. But that may be just so the dealers can move new stock, haven't read too many private seller's stories.

As was mentioned, check your previous yearly mileage averages to see if a lease is right for you.

I'd say you'd prolly be in the $400-$450 range on a decently equipped 09 with minimal down.

I think the only way I would do a lease is if it was >$350, otherwise seems like a waste to me. I've pretty much been trading in my trucks about every year now and taking about a $5000 hit on them. Leasing seems like it would be cheaper for ME...

Expect a higher payment if you're only going to lease is for one year.
