So, does this happen to you?

I have been googeling like a SOB about this issue. Found a few forums threads about people with the same issue, but want to ask here.

One here (http://www.steadyhealth.com/Does_dri...-0-asc-40.html)

I've been a drinker since I was 14. I drank heavily, mostly vodka and other liquors. When I joined the Army, ironically, I stopped drinking. PT in the morning with a hang over sucks gentlemen, believe that.

In the Army I incurred a lower back injury with sciatica to my left knee. Daily, it's a very dull but bearable chronic pain, about a 3 to 4 on the pain scale. Mostly the sciatica and joint aches don't present themselves unless it's been a long day with coke and hookers, haha, I kid, sort of.

Then to top it all over in April of 09 I wrecked my motorcycle and received a nice grade 5 Right AC separation. The keloid scar makes the girls drop their panties, or is that cringe, it's all perception I guess.

Now, every time I drink alcohol, namely beer, the pain from my injuries seem amplified. More-over I have a more duller achy pain in my back, knee, and joints, and the sciatica is present at a 7 or 8 on the pain scale. It becomes so unbearable, I can't sleep or get comfortable. Even after, get this, 200 mg of morphine and 120mg of oxy, the pain is still above the unbearable threshold.

I am looking to see if anyone suffers this.

I went out last night with some ladies, had only 2 beers socially before going back with them to their house, but had to leave shortly after. I felt so sick, as If I had drank a case. I had the urge to throw up, and I was getting cold sweats, clammy, and shaky. I didn't score that night, sucks.

My house is 20 minutes away and I rode my motorcycle shaking all over the damn highway from feeling so sick. Even though it was 80 degress outside, I had to stop and put my rain gear on and my old field jacket, I got so cold.

This has been happening for a year or so now. It can even be from a sip of alcohol.

I've looked up allergies, intolerance, and so on, nothing seems to quite match my symptoms.

I'm hoping to sum it up to being a ford driver?

The only thing I found in common with most is;

-Heavy drinkers as kids
-It can start from even a minor amount of beer, like a sip or a taste
-The pain starts later that night, or the next morning
-The symptoms can be so bad that they last from one day to several weeks.
-Even with a sip, hangover symptoms are present, such as puking, clamminess, cold sweats, headache, and so on.
-The pain is mostly amplified pain from prior injuries, or a dull achy lower back pain with people think is a kidney problem.
Sucks.

Sounds like you need to cut back on several things brother! Maybe it's just your body's way of telling you it's time to put the bottle down? Good luck!

LOL... Really made me laugh

Seriously though, I am not a drinker at all. As I stated, it comes and starts from a very small amount of alcohol. I didn't drink for almost 4 years while in the military prior to recently.

AA is for people who consume large copius amounts of alcohol and will not stop at any cost. I know this, my mother was an alcoholic and as a kid I attended AA meetings with her. Eating donuts and drinking coffee.

I don't drink much because I take narcotic pain killers for the injuries I got in the Army. I don't mix crap like that. The days I do drink or decide to, I don't take any pain killers that day and sometimes the day prior also. I've asked the doc is it the pain killers and so on which may cause this, but he said if I am stopping them that day or prior he does not think it is related. As, the main reason you don't mix alcohol with pain killers is more over the sedation is intensified.

I have also some heart conditions in which my doc actually told me to enjoy a small amount of alcohol for this reason.

But, I can't even handle a sip of beer without getting ill as all hell. And for the AA things, in the last 4 years, I've drank maybe 6 times.

It is something truly problematic.

How long have you been taking the narcs for?

My guess is that you are addicted to the narcs, so, when you stop taking them so you can drink alcohol, your body starts having withdraws. Which would explain the chills, shakes, nausea, etc.... Not taking the pain killers would also explain why the pain increases so bad.

Try not taking them and not drinking alcohol either, and see if you get the same symptoms. If you do, then bingo.

If you are taking the narcs multiple times a day, how many times a day? You could try skipping one, and putting back a beer, and see if you get the same symptoms. If so, then it might be the alcohol. Would be a weird allergy, but I could think of worse things to be allergic too.

The human body is very addictive in nature. Being addicted to pain killers, sleep aids, etc.. Is very common, and nothing to be ashamed off. It is a flaw in the heath care field, that occurs way to much.
I know guys 25 years old addicted to percocet from a simple knee injury, and guys addicted to ambien bc they were really stressed for about a month. Were prescribed ambien to help, and now they are really addicted. Im talking about blowing through current prescription, and having to buy more off internet so they can sleep.

Anyway, that is my guess. I'm no doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

Good reply JNC. But, it's not, I can testify to that for 1005 positive ident. I have had to quit many times cold turkey due to several circumstance, insurance, switching doctors, and so on. The worst withdrawals I've had was very tired and diarrhea with some achy joints and unable to eat. Usually, I'll sleep for 3 or so days (waking up to drink and pee) straight and wake up very groggy, hungry, but fine. I've been through this 3 or 4 times since being on narcs. On avg, I'll quit for around 3 weeks before getting back on them.

I have never puked or hot or cold sweats or any of the usual tell tale signs of withdrawal.

But, I appreciate the insight, however, it is not that, I truly believe it isn't. As I said, Google something like "alcohol causes back pain" and you'll see many others suffer from this "syndrome".

The best thing I found somewhere was a person had a kidney stone and the alcohol couldn't pass after being processed and was staying the body causing the body to react to it like any poison causing pain and so on to let it's owner know something is wrong.

Who knows? Good guess though, but I highly doubt it is that. I can go 3 or 4 days without any type of symptoms. At the end of the month I always have extra meds, even my "Everyday" ER meds because I don't take **** when I don't need them. It takes around 3 or 4 days before I start noticing any kind of W/D symps.

But to answer a few of your ?'s.

I know I am physically dependent on my meds. But, as I previously states my W/D symps are very very m,ild compared to some.

I am prescribed to take one 90mg Avinza daily for pain management of chronic pain type. (90mg morphine sulfate extended release)
Also for breakthrough pain (Acute pain attacks), I am to take 10/325mg percocet up to five times a day. (10mg Oxycodone with 325mg tylenol instant release)

I've never run out and in fact usually have extra of each medication at the end of the month around 8 to 10 pills per script.

Never felt the urge to sell them or buy any from anyone for running out, I guess because I've never ran out.
