Now let me see if i can understand this...
Let me get this straight.
Obama's health care plan will be
written by a committee whose head says he doesn't understand it,
passed by a Congress that hasn't read it,
signed by a president who smokes,
funded by a treasury chief who did not pay his taxes,
overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and
financed by a country that is nearly broke.
What possibly could go wrong?

Maybe you should get your facts straight before open your ignorant mouth and speak. I am a disabled vet, I have more than a little knowledge of veterans healthcare. First being a vet doesn't get you ANY healthcare when you get out. You first have to fall under some classification such as you served in an area where chemical weapons were potentially used or something similar to that, or the more broad category is to have a service connected disability, meaning something in your duty caused your disability. Disabilities are weeighted for payment and healthcare purposes from 0% to 100%. 0 means you were hurt/injured but causes no disability currently but may worsen, 100 means you are typically incapable of full time work. Ratings are revisited periodocally, for example I was initially rated at 30 but increased to 70 2 years later. When going for treatment you are screened per your disability rating, the lower ratings only get treatment for what their disability is and nothing more, the higher your disability is the more treatment you have available for you. Additionally, the higher disability patients have higher priority to the available healthcare.
But none of that really matters because they (we) deserve the treatment we receive. Just as you'd receive state disability payments and treatment from workmans comp. The average soldier getting out gets no healthcare coverage. He may in some cases go to a VA hospital, but has to pay like he would elsewhere.
So you really think we don't need/deserve the treatment we get?

Do you use the VA system? Do you feel you are getting the care you would at a civilian practice?

Yes I use the VA system currently. I am in the vocational rehab program so I actually get full coverage with dental etc. right now. Once I'm done with school, my coverage will drop some, I'm just not sure how much I'll lose. I am greatful for it since I currently can't really afford much else, but is it my first choice? No! My primary care physician is great, but she's way overworked. It takes weeks to get an appointment and there is no walk in service here. If I get sick and need to see a dr right away, I have to drive about 90 miles to get seen on a first come first served basis. the dr's there are again adequate and most really like the job and are commited to serving veterans. Why else would they be there? Unfortunately the answer is they don't really cut it in general public practice. All are again overworked and the quality of care starts to show.
Those are some big complaints, and honestly I wouldn't choose that. But I am grateful for the option of that care while I need it and can't afford an alternative.

To the OP, if you can't see the benefit of a state solution to health care you are simply a racist.
Honestly, it doesn't matter what you think. The administration has a mandate and they are going to use it. They will use it for what ever they want. Get used to it because health care isn't the end of our struggle to get our elected representatives to listen to us. It's the beginning. Hell, when we bring the message right to their front door, they just tell us we're wrong.
2010 is a long, long way off. There are way too many people in this country who are content to suffer, while evils are sufferable. Until there is a majority of Americans who are prepared to right themselves, we're going to become more and more the servants of the people who we've elected to serve us as our representatives in OUR government.
Yes, but not as it was at one time. I have a Brother inlaw that is retired Navy, but he doesn't use the benefits at this time. But his wife(my Sister) uses Champus for medications for a chronic illness.
13 trillion seems like chump change when you consider the unfunded liabilities that several administrations have saddled us, and our posterity with.

I agree with wittom 100% !
What is truly sad is that the majority of Americans do not even realize that if this health care bill passes, the federal government will own everyone's body when it is fully implemented. That is the major reason why the program will not be fully implemented until JANUARY 2013 ! 2 months after the next Presidential election !
