I'm not an AC guy but are unit is 23 years old an we just had to replace a capacitor in it. While he was out I asked about getting a new unit or just replacing internal parts, which would be cheaper. He said for about 1800 he could replace the whole unit outside including install. He also said that it would be a larger unit than the one we have now. Dont recall the size but we live in a 2000sqft two story home. Not sure if this a buddy price seeing as he does it on the side and is a good friend of the father-in-law.

What the guy told me was that they are about to change the standard for AC units to an R14 or something. Maybe one of the AC guys can clear this up. I know there was some new mixing with old unit clash' but dont recall what he told me. It pretty much all confused me.

If he's running a freaking buisness he should have insurance. If he really doesn't, he and anyone who hires him are retards..

Make sure he's just not trying to blow you off.

well, my dad, being the lawyer like he is, is going to the court house tomorrow to see what all "the old guy" owns land wise. so if he owns enough to justify going after him we will. but if he doesnt, then it looks like i will be the bad neighbor and go to my neighbor that hired him for his insurance. but that is going to suck. i like my neighbors but i dont want to get *&$%@& over either!!

Or you could call your own insurance agent, and see if you are covered under your homeowner's policy.

The $500 deductible is not going to seem so large when the alternative involves lawyer time and disrupting neighborhly relations.

Your insurance company will probably give you a check for the estimates less deductible, then you can wait until the AC actually craps out before you replace it.

well i already called them, made an info only claim. problem is, i have a $2000 deductable on the house. they said they will cover it and persue him themselves, but i will only get $400 from my insurance....oh yea, the lawyer is free, it is my dad that does mostly oil and gas stuff but still has his bar!!

idk they didnt try to lasso around the tree and "pull" it as it came down in the direction they desired.

Or better yet, why they didnt cut down some larger limbs before trying to take the whole thing down.

I would definitely push to have him claim it on his insurance, since it was his tree that did the damage. Not your AC's fault that it had to catch the tree. I would also have anything replaced that is even slightly damaged from this incident. I dont think it would be fair for you to pay for constant AC service over the next few years just because something was over looked now.

Just have your Dad deliver the estimates and everything to the guy, if he is a lawyer then it will kind of force his hand to do something, and you aren't being rude. He jacked your heat pump, he is liable.

Well, if your dad can't get any money out of the handyman, he could put a lein on any property the handyman owns. That way, if the handyman ever sells any property, you might get paid then.

Hopefully your neighbor's deductible on his homeowner's policy is a lot less than $2,000. Sounds to me like the neighbor will probably end up coming out of pocket for his deductible to pay for the handyman's screw up.

Your neighbor hired a tree trimming/ removing service without checking to see if they are bonded and insured? Really? That doesn't sound at all like anything a conscientious homeowner would do.

What would have happened if any one of the numerous trees would have fallen on the home of your neighbor who contracted the removal of these trees?

This business owner and your neighbor are JACKING you around! Go ahead and roll over and eat the cost of a new unit.

or

Walk over to your neighbor who contracted with this business and advise him of your dilemma and that you are seeking restitution for damages and that if the business owner isn't willing to be an upstanding citizen, then you will be suing your neighbor for the damages.

If this was truly a "good" neighbor, he would be working with you already to make you whole for this incident.

JMO and its the only one that counts

u can go with a different brand, the evaporator coil will have to be replaced inside on top the furnace if you do the outdoor unit. so for about 3500 you can replace the a/c portion of the system, evap a/coil and outdoor unit
