re: .22 v shotgun
22 wouldve been just random fun, shotgun would be used for fowl, and fun.

I've been looking at a Rem 11-87. Benelli vinci is supposed to be awesome, from what I read, but I cant justify spending that right now.

So do you go hunting? Im not trying to sound rude but it sounds to me like this is your first weapon? or at least the first one you've bought on your own?

auto loaders are VERY nice youtube tom knapp and see what he does with a bernelli (cant name model because he sponsored and goes through tons)

if your just starting go with the moss 500 or rem 870 they are about as reliable as you can get my mossberg has been in water, mud, sand ive dropped it and it all ways works. plus it is easy to clean.

but just messing around you can get a .22 (ruger 10/22) but mosberg makes the plinker, marlin has a couple, just about everyone makes one. and you can buy 500rds for about the same price as 20 12ga shells.

Recently introduced, yes. But before that, been killing evil paper targets for a few years.

Benelli vinci I think. Someone suggested that at "another site" I visit. Nice sounding, but seems pricey for me being so young (read: no exorbitant income).

When I do get another plinker, it'll be a 10/22.

mossberg 500 is a better gun then an 870 express. the ergonomics are much better (better safety location and slide release, easier to load shells), no modification to slide is necessary if you want to add a side saddle. the aftermarket area is just as good. less rusting. easier to add mag extension.

one given between all these models except the ithaca is that they are available in various camo setups and are available with a 3-1/2" chamber. all are available in hi-capacity models with shorter barrel.s

but if your going to get an 870, go wingmaster or go home. otherwise get a mossberg.

after writing this i remembered too pump guns that are better then the 870 and 500. what could possibly be better?

The Browning BPS and the Ithaca Model 37. Right now, both of these pump guns are of much higher quality then pump gun remington or mossberg are putting out.

the BPS is my favorite gun since im a lefty, and it is totally ambidextrous. it has a tang safety and bottom ejection and loading. total quality, and its even available in 10 gauge. the downside to the BPS is it is heavy (around 7.5 to 8lbs depending on the model) and its costs about $450-$500.

the Ithaca 37 is probably even better made then the BPS. it is also bottom loading and ejecting, but shares the safety and slide release location with the 870, so that is a negative. its about the same price as a BPS, but it is also very light (the featherlight is a steel reciever model like an 870 and weighs 7.4 lbs and the ultralight has an aluminum receiver like a mossberg and it weighs 6.5 lbs). it also has a beautiful game scene engraving on both sides of the receiver.

My gun of choice is the Browning auto 5. Great gun. Made for 100 years. There is a reason they were produced so long.

same here. i have a browning auto 5 magnum 12. 30" barrel. made in japan in i think 1986.

i am thinking of a pump gun though to supplement it on pheasant and quail hunting. or to altogether replace it since it technically belongs to my dad.

Only been a month and a half, but I finally picked one up

Rem 1187 Sportsman. I liked my friend's that I shot, and I've read great stuff about it, so for $673 after tax, it's mine from wally world.

BAD wallyworld experience though:
Got to the counter and found it around 905pm. Started the stupid paperwork, signing crap, them calling it in, etc. Around 950 the manager gets there to clear it (or something) and starts YELLING at me (I shoot you not, she was being a total BITCH) to pay quickly. So I'm standing behind this guy in line so I can pay next, but NO. That is not what she wanted. "You've got 3 minutes to get out of here or I cant let you do it. You know what, no, you cant do it tonight." Apparently walmart has some EPIC strict policy about 10 and guns.

So I pay fast w/debit card and we follow another guy to the door so I can GTFO. We pass the door and what does he do? Hands it to my SISTER! The one that could be an underage felon (she isnt either, but still). F U Wal Mart.

p.s. Saw Elvis wondering around sporting goods there

Some interesting opinions on guns to say the least, I'll stay out of the debate. Heres my latest addition to the collection, Winchester SX3. Its a light, swinging, pointing, cycling machine. But dont go by who says is the best gun. Its all about how the gun feels to you. You can buy the most expensive gun but if it doesnt feel good in your hands and against your shoulder its not worth a dime. Beretta, Winchester, Remington, Benelli, shoulder them all and the decision will practically make itself when you find the right fit.

Well atleast you got your gun, some people at wal marts are idiots when it comes to just about anything. I have been thinking about getting an 11-87 but my 870 has never failed me since I was 16 so its been hard to let go of, so in stead I bought that 870 sureshot since I can only hunt deer with shotgun since the majority of upstate new york outlaws rifle hunting and even though there isnt a house for miles anywhere around me, its ridiculous.
