Matthew 24 refers to things that will be seen near the end of the age. There have not yet been until recently, "false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect," etc. etc. Benny Hinn and his ilk could fall into this group.

Some scholars have mistakenly claimed that these times passed in the first century AD, but they forget 1 major prophesy: The reformation of the nation of Israel in 1948.

In other words, I'm right and you have no actual counterargument.

It's not about being right. It's about where our souls will spend eternity. We will all grow old and wear a dirt blanket one day.

Lay out your concerns about the Bible one-by-one and I will answer them in the morning.

It's bedtime.

Ok buddy, that's better

hey, just because we don't agree on here doesn't mean we can't agree on other things.

Besides, we already established that in heaven you will take all the old and worn out ladies, and I'll be stuck with the 40 virgins (and the giant jar of vasoline)

PS--> I still think that signature is a great idea

Hey Alex, you gotta be careful here.

If Frank is right and you are wrong, those 40 virgins might be guys

As snappy & quick witted as I am, I don't know how to reply to that.

Damn you for putting that thought in my head and ruining a good thing, lol

Why is it that you people are so persistent on proving the other wrong? I see no need in the countless threads started over these religious debates. Why do you guys feel that you have to continuously disprove or discredit others beliefs, or challenge others to prove you're wrong? Ya'll are guilty of this on all sides. Don't you realize that anything you say will most likely not changes the others beliefs? You literally have little to nothing to gain in attempting to prove otherwise.

Why can't we just let bygones be bygones?

I see what you're saying but it's not necessarily proving the other wrong. I'm here to learn about new possibilities and to provide a different perspective. Most are here for the same reason. While I agree that almost all religious debates lead nowhere and are just a big merry-go-round, it's healthy to have serious debates. It works the mind.

frank s. i will ask a couple of legit questions regarding the bible if i may:

- does god condone slavery? the old testament is rife with talk about how to treat your slaves, and the new testament does not say it is wrong.
- is the earth flat? there is a passage that says "four corners" or something like that
- was the universe actually created by god in six days as it says in genesis?

i am no bible scholar so correct me if i am wrong. but it seems to me that our modern discoveries cannot mesh with the claims in the bible. 500 years ago we did not know the earth was round, but now we have overwhelming evidence to prove it. dna evidence combined with the fossil record to pretty much prove that organisms have evolved over long periods of time.

God never condoned slavery, just as God never condoned divorce. When the first books of the Bible were written, slavery was already being used by the nations of the world at that time. God laid out how slaves were to be treated. They were to be freed after a certain amount of time (7 years I believe) and not to be enslaved again. Contrary to what we see on TV, the vast majority of slaves were treated well in the American South and many times did not want to be freed and were actually buried next to the plantation owners' graves.

The verse that says "4 corners" is a reference to the four cardinal directions of north, south, east, west. There are many verses that show the earth as round. One off the top of my head is Isaiah 40:22. There are others that if the Catholic church were led by the Spirit, they never would have ridiculed Galileo.

The earth was created in 6 literal days (day, night). Science can only theorize where and how the basic elements were created.

DNA evidence does not prove evolution. Scientists like to postulate that "about 98% of our DNA we share with chimps." Keep in mind we also share approx. 96% of our DNA with ferns.

DNA is not proof of evolution. It only proves that we are of the same careful thought out design. What most scientists are blinded by is their complete refusal to believe that there may be a higher being. When that disconnect is made, they must travel down the path of evolution, since it is the only theory that can be followed once the possibility of design is discarded.
