68 ebbtide
Hey, some of you may remember I posted a thread here re-guarding my fathers sickness. Sadly we lost him August the 1st, now that things are getting some what back to normal I have a few things I need to do.
First off he left me a boat, I know that people think I should keep it but with a young child and bills that keep getting higher I won't use that boat ne way im forced to sale it.
1968 Ebbtide boat with a Evinrude motor. I do not know the size, I know it runs and that for a 68 im overly impressed with its condition. But I do not know what its worth, it was a long story how I got it back. Things got pretty bad between my dad and some other family members and things got *missing*. Turns out this boat had been titled to me before his passing, which mean't no matter where it was It was still owned by me. After some searching I found it and with some careful talks got it back.
It was on a auto lot for sale for 1850.00 which I think is insane. I don't think the motor is the original one it looks not new but newer than 68. Im going to post a picture of it here just some of you cats who deal with boats or watever tell me if it might be worth 900 or so could ya?
Also anyone on here deal with antiques? I was passed a dagger, claimed to be a pre civil war confederate issue dagger. It has no markings, handle made of crafted bone and leather. Dogwood carvings on the handles and looks just extremely old. It also has no markings of replicated construction, could I possibly be given a good website or so to visit to learn more about the authenticity of it? Thanx guys for everything!

Sorry to hear about your pops. Regarding the dagger, do not clean it or wirebrush it or anything of the like until you have it looked at by an expert. Stuff like that is at lot more valueable if the original patina is still there.
The engine LOOKS to be a mid 80's model. You might check to see if it has an oil tank, probably under the splashwell. That will pretty much tell you that it is at least a newer engine. Most of these types of boats had a max HP rating of 100 or less. Mostly because that was the max HP of the engines of the day in 1968. Back then most engines sold were of the 35HP variety. The Ebbtide you'll find is not a rough water boat and will pound pretty bad in choppy water. But if you are river fishing or small lake, it's a dandy. It most likely will have cable steering. Be careful as it has a tendency to get loose and will steer where ever it wants to go. It can be tightened and I can give you instructions if that is the case. When you take it out, if you still have it, make sure that after the engine is started to look for water coming out of the pee hole. The impellers on these things last about 5 years but should be changed every other year. If it fails, the engine will burn up and quick. The impeller is the water pump and the engine is aluminum- it won't take any abuse at all concerning heat. I'd also check the wheel bearings before taking off with it. Yer grandfather may have done a fabulous job at maintenance but if it's been sitting any length of time, you need to proceed like it has never been maintained at all. If it has VRO on it, which is the automatic oil injection, I'd still run a 50:1 mix in the gas. Unless you know exactly the recent history of the usage of the boat, don't assume anything is right. I'd also look for soft spots in the floor. A common area is around the chair mounts. You don't need to be bouncing across the lake and the chair you are sitting on come loose or worse, go thru the floor. It's hard to drive while falling thru the floor. Take yer time and have some fun with it. The only thing it's costing you to keep it is license and gas. The sale price at $1850.00 sounds about right for a running boat of this era in decent shape. Problem is not many folks looking at buying any boat during the reign of Obama and this time of year. Best of luck.
