I strongly recommend reading it if you haven't, before it's banned.

Do you really think it would be ban? That's worse than interfering with the second amendment rights. It's not like it's **** or something. It is about free thinkers.

If you carry a gun people can make an excuse to kill, or silence you. If you carry an idea, there is no stopping you with probable cause, as written into the constitution..

Atlas Shrugged, 1984, Brave New World.... They should be required reading at the High School level and discussed thoroughly. All interesting social commentaries in novel form.

John Galt represents the individual achievement that drives the evolution of Mankind's condition. Without the Rockefellers, Carnegies, and Gates of the world (and of history), we would not live in a world as advanced and comfortable as we do.

Thanks, Odin. You've just answered a question I've had as long as I could read. My dad used to have a t-shirt that said "Who is John Galt?" and any time I'd ask him I'd get the same response: "Read the book and figure it out." He gave me a copy of the book when I graduated high school and told me to read it. At one point when I was out of work 15 years ago, I actually opened the book and started reading it. To this day, I still haven't finished it, but I do know where it is. Now that I'm older and have a car, a truck, the internet and a full-time job to occupy my time I can usually find much better things to do other than pick up a dry (to me) book and try to get through it. I'm now thinking maybe I should slow down some and try it again. Must be a sign I'm getting older. Thanks for starting the thread, NCSU

In reality, I don't really think it will be banned. If things ever got to that point I would like to think "we the people" would rise up, but the way things are going, if left unchecked, this is exactly the type of book that would be burned in large piles along with other "dangerous propaganda".

I understand completely. The first time I opened the book I was still in high school, and I didn't finish it either. It wasn't until several years later that I finally got back to it and read it. It can be a hard read, but it's well worth it!

My teachers had me read all of these books growing up. Heck, we read Animal Farm in the 7th grade.

Private schooling beats the heck out of public schools. People are singing Obama songs in public school.

I read it back in the 60s and also her Fountainhead novel.

IMO, Atlas is already "shrugging' as producers leave the 'normal' economy and go underground or leave this country altogether.

AS is one of the greatest books ever.

"We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force." Ayn Rand...

Read it and Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal by Ayn Rand.

In it is an article written by Alan Greenspan in 1966 where he admits that abolishing the gold standard is nothing but a plan by welfare statists to indebt America.

Where did you go wrong since then Mr. Greenspan ?
