EVGA 750i SLI FTW Edition
Socket 775
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Built it with parts from www.newegg.com and stole the CPU, Hard drive, and a DVD from the Gateway I had previously.

I'm using an older Asus A8N5X MB with the processor and, other than the noisy Northbridge chip fan, haven't had any problems. It's a known issue, at this point, I'm just waiting on a passive cooler so I can switch it out.

I am running a DG45ID
http://www.intel.com/Products/Deskto...D-overview.htm
With an Intel core 2 quad Q9550
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=33924
8GB of DDR2 1333 Kingston ram
and a Nvidia Gforce gtx 285
I peg vista at 5.9 on every performance score and not counting graphics card (which I didn't have to have because the board has decent on board graphics) I bought and built my computer for around 600$

Flip a coin on the CPU really. One day I'd go AMD then the next Intel. Anymore when I start to build a system I look for the best motherboard made and then weigh the CPU. For Motherboard, Asus has always been my top pick followed up by DFI. But.. all manufactures make good and bad boards on both ends of the scale. So really if you want good suggestions you might want to visit a actual computer site like www.hardocp.com. They do indepth reviews of all computer related hardware.

Indeed. That's why I run Ubuntu Linux, too. Cheaper (in terms of cost, not quality) CPU and a free OS to run it all.
