Best Place to purcahse a Engagment/Wedding Ring

I've never been into Jewelery so the majority of the stores I know would be in the mall like Zales. I'm thinking about purposing to my girlfriend but I would like to know of some good places to start looking at rings and any info that you can provide me with on rings like cut, clarity, etc.

Kay Jewlers! they helped me out alot! i got a 2 3/4 carrot engagement ring plus wedding band for my wife a year and a half ago and i paid 4900. they have a good selection and its not to overly priced. most women like " princess cut" and white gold or platinum.

Holy cow. My wife even way back befroe we were married would have killed me if I spent $4900 on a ring. however she considers money spent on jewelry a waste in the 1st place...

Good Luck Op. If she isn't the superstitious type, you might try pawn shops. Most ladies would want new though so they don't get 'jinxed'

My fiance and I went to a place here called Spence. They have the most annoying commercials on the radio, but they have a good selection and all their cabinets are open. You just reach in and try one on without asking permission.

I don't know if you have anything like that, down there, but it might be worth checking out. Good luck!

the first one is to "flashy" maybe? to many diamonds IMO

i would go for a silver ring with a diamond or two in it, nothing over the top, but simple.

I would never buy anything from that store simply because there commercials are annoying as hell. I bought my wife's ring at a local jewelry store, its a 1.5 ct
VVS1,H, Pear shape fine cut for 3000.00 out the door.

For that kind of jack, you have many options. If your gal is like mine, she's probably dropped some hints on what would please her... hope you were listening, lol.

IMO, you should talk to some reputable local jewelers (not chains) and see what they can do. They will probably have stones separate for you to examine, priced by themselves. Then you can pick a setting.

FWIW, I got my wife a high quality ruby for an engagement ring from a local jeweler that came highly recommended by someone I respected. Then we used my wife's late grandmother's engagement ring as a wedding band.

Thanks for the advice guys. Scrap Jared's. I looked on there website and I didn't find anything I liked. I thought that ring number 1 was to flashy also but its nice. Ring #2 is probably more of my lady's style.

Here is an idea...in the Caribbean you will find jewelery much cheaper. Especially in St. Maarteen. They will even serve you liquor while you browse!!! A beer and a diamond...can't beat that. You could take a cruise and pop the question there. The savings from the ring purchase will be huge and even with the cost of the cruise, you will still be way ahead.

If you do elect to buy one here in the US, do it in person and haggle on the price. Buying jewelery is like buying cars. I do like the second one better than the first one though. The first one is too bling!

X2. The markup on jewelry is huge. There is plenty of room for negotiation face to face. Best to do that when your gal is not around, though.

Let her think you loved her enough to pay full retail, and she'll like the ring even better, lol.

OP, congrats on the upcoming egnagement, btw!
