Dive Trip to Seattle (Puget Sound Naval Shipyard)
Dive Trip to Seattle (Puget Sound Naval Shipyard)
Hey all, I've been out traveling for work the past couple weeks. This time I was sent to Bremerton, WA, just across the Sound from Seattle. We were working at the Naval Shipyard, inspecting their waterfront structures.
Unfortunately I couldn't take away any photos from the base, but there were some pretty cool things going on there.
On my 2nd day of diving we were working on a mooring platform where decomissioned nuclear submarines are stored until they are "recycled". It's pretty cool to be down at 50' and look up to see a couple of Los Angeles class subs floating above you!
There was also an active duty Ohio class ballistic missile submarine in the dry docks. That's a very impressive piece of machinery to see first hand
(not my photo, but from the same shipyard)

I did get a pic of one of the mothballed aircraft carriers that was moored up.

I did get some decent photos from my time in Seattle....
A view of downtown from the Space Needle:

The Space Needle:

Sunset over the sound:

Went to Pike's Place to get some fresh Salmon, yum!

Had some good beer at Silver City Brewery:

Had some killer Pho too! I swear it must have been nearly a gallon!!

Gotta like Bikini Joe's drive thru coffee shop. Is there any wonder why we went by this place every morning on the way to the shipyard?
All in all, it was a pretty good trip!

Nice pics, man (esp. last two). Once again I'm jealous of your job.
With all this traveling you do you should look into a digital SLR. I'm in the research process right now and am going to get one in August.

) that works pretty darn well, it's just too big to carry around all the time. I think the DSLR would have the same problem. Maybe one day when I have more time to just mess around and take photos I'll get one.
"Joe" as in coffee... But yes, god bless america! There are several of these types of places in Seattle and they all dress like strippers... One of my other divers manged to finagle himself a date with one of the coffeegirls while I was out there. He had a good time

I've got a decent 10 megapixel camera with 12x optical zoom (or 12 mp with 10x zoom, i forget

Just did a search and found their webpage if anyone is interested in checking them out: http://www.myspace.com/bikinijoes123 Enjoy man! Get all the training you can! I've done way more work dives than I have recreational dives. If you get into it you'll find it's a fun, but expensive hobby.
Hopefully next summer I'll take a week or so and go back to the Bahamas for some fun, warm and clear water diving

I went to school for engineering and when I took my current job with an engineering consulting company, they had a group of divers and I was lucky enough to be able to join them.
PSNS has both Navy divers and civilian divers. From what we heard the the Navy divers don't really work all that much. The civilian divers are the ones in the water every day. Any idea how it breaks down at your shipyard?
