Looking for a Lake
Looking for a Lake
My family hasn't done anything "summery" yet. So, we decided to take a mini-camping trip August 8-13.
Our main problem is the destination. We have a 21' boat that must be used this year. I refuse to spend all that money on it and not be able to drive it. We usually go to Greenbelt Lake, where we keep the boat. The lake is dried up to the point where we can't put a boat on it.
Amarillo Area
Options:
Lake Meredith (TX): Fine, if there was no wind, but there is always wind here.
Ute Lake (NM): Canyon lake, no trees, haven't been there in 20 years. I hear it's full of water.
Foss Lake (OK): Full, good camping, reasonable distance from Amarillo.
Lake Altus (OK): Haven't been there in 30 years... still remember a water slide.
I'm open to any and all suggestions from people in the region.
Where should we go? We'll be in tents, not campers. An accessible toilet for the ladies is about our only main need... (and beer, an F-150 can only haul so much beer).

No sense looking for a lake south. There isn't hardly a lake left anywhere in central or south Texas. How about a trip to the coast? There's lots of water there. There are lots of camp grounds on Mustang Island with facilities for the girls. Speaking of girls.....okay, may I better not but make sure to bring yer sun glasses...the kind the wife can't see yer eyes thru. LOTS and LOTS of scenery.
