New Laptop help

Hi guys i am looking for a laptop pc for the wife. It needs to be a decent one but lets keep it under 500 clams. She will need it for her schooling duties (nurse). She just needs to be able to access the internet when at home and do some homework on word. Any help in where to look for good deals?

Is a "netbook" enough for her needs? Look at the Asus EEEPC - they have models with real hard drives and Windows XP in the $300 range - add about 75 bucks for an external DVD burner and a 2gb ram upgrade. Newegg.com is a good a place as any to buy them.

i agree, i will never buy a normal laptop again...these new netbooks have 8hrs+ battery life...they're small and easy to carry...i go to college and i walk around all day with my 15.4" laptop and it kills my back when i have books too carry as well....just use it for web browsing and little tasks....build yourself a custom desktop for all other computing needs and hook that bad boy up to your hi-def tvs

Asus is a good netbook brand, they started the game so they're ahead...all other brands are overpriced for the same amount of hardware i hear the samsungs are really good too check them out, hope this helps.
