Workouts during lunch
Workouts during lunch
I am looking at starting a routine where I drop by the local YMCA during my lunch hour to have a quick workout. The only odd thing is that I am usually starving to death by the time I get ready to go to lunch at 11am (I have to be at work at 6am everyday).
I am debating whether to focus on weights or cardio during this time. I really don't want to return to work with swamp-*** or anything like that. I guess I could shower after I finish up and then zip back to work.
Does anyone here even attempt to exercise during lunch? If so do you have any recommendations on how to overcome the hunger feeling before you go besides eating something significant.

As for the hunger, do you eat breakfast? If not I suggest you do. If you do, then bring some fruit or vegtables with you to work to snack on a couple of times between 6-11. As for the workout, I PERSONALLY recommend that you do cardio, it is a good mid day workout. Do you workout at all any other time? I would recommend running during the day time and then doing some MEDIUM weight lifting in the evening hours or right after work, that way your metabolism stays up even when your asleep! Its a free workout basically.
Why couldn't you pack a pb&j sandwhich and eat it on the way to the Y? On the subject of cardio or wieghts it depends on what you are aiming on accomplishing. If you just want to lose some extra pounds then a jog on the tredmill would be suficient. If you want to become fit and tone some muscles then you need to work the core muscles.
I do eat breakfast. I have to otherwise I will be nauseous until I eat something. I usually eat a bagel with creme cheese for breakfast and OJ/Apple Juice on the way to work. Big breakfasts are out of the question for me in the morning as I will turn lethargic. I am looking at picking up some Ensure or something to drink around 10AM for some calories/vitamins.
I try to eat some fruit or something crunchy in the mid-morning to help me out, but I just eat often. Keep in mind I am 6' 6". According to the "charts" I am supposed to weight 218 lbs and as of right now I am 240 lbs. That would be a BMI around 28% which is supposed to be pretty bad for my age of 27. On a side note, this is a rough calculation and not a true one. Most ppl can't believe I weight this much as I am a large framed guy.
I don't know if the cardio will be better for me or not as I usually have a lot of anger built up for 11am after dealing with the stupidity of those around me on a daily basis. But I would say the cardio would be better for me. Only issue is that treadmills don't work well due to my long stride and ellipticals are just as bad. Though I prefer the ellipticals due to the massive pounding sounds I make when I jog on the treadmill.
I will try the cardio workouts on Monday to see how things go for me. I would try to do some weights, but I have a massive walk/hike on Sunday to do some scouting for deer with a buddy........ 10,000+ acres to cover. LOL!!

Yeah i'd say that since your 6'6" Id use the track. I know our Y has a track above the 2 gyms. I'd use it. That way you can stride at your own comfort and what not. You may even consider useing the pool once or twice a week. Swimming believe it or not burns a lot of calories. I'm sure your Y has a pool. You can work in a 30 minutes swimming session of just swiming lap (back and forth). Also if no one is useing the gym you may consider doing ladders. You wouldn't believe how bad they are. They will burn a lot of calories for you. Down is 1 and back is 2. Do ladders of like 8, 10, 12, 10, 8 to start with then eventually you will build stamina and be able to do ladders up to whatever you want. Ladders are brutal so start off easy! Once you get your wieght downthen you can start toning by doing sit-ups to work the abs then some seated rows and etc. to work the back.
