Small Businesses Irate Over Climate Change Bill

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009...limate-change/

A growing number of business owners and taxpayers are mobilizing nationwide against the House-approved cap-and-trade energy bill, which would reduce energy consumption but could raise energy prices and harm small businesses.

Here we go. Bye bye America as we know it. Hello communism.

It was a close vote, 219-212.
Eight republicans crossed over, if only four had crossed it wouldn't have passed.

Still has to go through the Senate, maybe the republicans can filibuster to keep it off the floor.

Cap and Tax is just another usurpation by the gov't. It's unconstitutional.

This is going to kill my families small business. We have to heat large storage warehouses in the winter.

It's not going to help my fathers business (of which I've been employed at for more than seventeen years) either. We're a service company. We have to bring all of our tools and materials to the job in a vehicle that consumes a decent amount of fuel. When gas prices were high last summer we tried to minimise the amount of trips we made but it's pretty difficult to schedule customers who live in a general vacinity in a time frame that works.

A truck that gets better fuel economy costs almost twice as much. These E250's with the 5.4 burn some fuel but their cost works into the budget.

In addition to higher fuel costs, the cost of health care is ALWAYS on the rise. We are constantly looking for more affordable health insurance. That in it's self takes time and resources. All of the insurances that are required continually go up. Local and state taxes are expensive. The sales tax will be going up by 25% in a couple weeks. That's a cost that we will have to pass on to the consumer but what it really does is make it harder for businesses to compete. The cost of the materials that we use is constantly on the rise. With cap and trade, the manufacturers who's products we use will be required to meet new, "green" standards and they will have to pass on their additional expenses to us.

This small business is being squeezed now more than ever. The last thing small businesses need now is increased expenses.

So now, with the increased taxes, and the increases in the cost of goods, we will have to get second jobs, which will require us to burn twice as much fuel to get to the second jobs. Oh, wait. Nevermind. Most businesses will be bankrupt, so there will be no jobs to be had. My God. I had no idea how much damage the uber-libs were capable of. How long 'till we enjoy cap and tax for our personal vehicles? Of course, this would be no problem for those of us who obeyed the environment czar, and bought the Pelosi GTxi SS/RT

Alright, I've finally have had enough with the current administration shoving everything through with the do it now or die now urgency. Since when did it become acceptable to vote on bills and such without even a chance to read it.

I'm guilty of never being really involved with the government or paying that close of attention. The past year I've been paying more attention and trying to learn more. What is best way to contact our officials to let them know I do not agree with our current path. I guess I need to know which officials to contact.....I don't want to leave anyone out.

Buy a gun. Then call whatever office, and open with, "I'm a gun-owner, and I'm unhappy..."

It gets a little attention.

Yeah, this is one of those things I was pretty sure wouldn't pass. What exactly did the creators of the bill think it would accomplish?

The Obama admin. is planning sometime in the future to institute a per-mile tax on how many miles you drive instead of how much gasoline you use.

Who knows if gas taxes will go up also. Hopefully we will have a better balance of power in Congress after the 2010 mid-term elections. If not, there is no telling what can be rammed through since Cap and Tax has made it through the House. Call your reps, I have.

U.S. Senate

In the upper right hand corner, pick your state to find your senators.

United States House of Representatives

In the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code to find your representative.

I believe that the interns in the offices prefer that you call and voice your concerns to them over an email. Email is just so impersonal.

Of the rights we have, there are also responsibilities. As the Declaration of Independence says, to secure our rights, governments are to be instituted among men. It says that our representatives are supposed to derive their just powers from the governed. It's our right to alter or abolish a government that is destructive to us. We've given our government the ability to wield too much power. It's time we live up to our responsibilities and scale back their powers to only what they need to govern.

A local priest was being honored at his retirement dinner after 25 years in the parish.

A leading local politician and member of the congregation was chosen to make the presentation and to give a little speech at the dinner.

However, he was delayed debating the "bail-out packages," so the priest decided to say his own few words while they waited:

"I got my first impression of the parish from the first confession I heard here. I thought I had been assigned to a terrible place. The very first person who entered my confessional told me he had stolen a television set and, when questioned by the police, was able to lie his way out of it. He had also stolen money from his parents, embezzled from his employer, had an affair with his best friend's wife, and taken illicit drugs. I was appalled."

"But as the days went on, I learned that my people were not all like that and I had, indeed, come to a fine parish full of good and loving people."

Just as the priest finished his talk, the politician arrived full of apologies for being late. He immediately began to make the presentation and said: "I'll never forget the first day our parish priest arrived. In fact, I had the honor of being the first person to go to him for confession."

Moral: Never, never, be late.
