mouse proofing pole barn

I thought of another question guys.....how would you keep out mice (field mice) from a pole built garage. the exterior skin is corragated so there is open
areas around the parimater all the way. should i use expanding foam or is there something i can spray or mothballs or something they would hate? don't like pulling the nests out of my air cleaner on the bike and them chewing up stuff. thanks.....

X2---it is too big, and the mice are too small---and ingenious little boogers to boot.

That spray foam insulation fattens them up. Maybe if you feed them enough of it, they will be too big to get in.

But seriously, if you try the foam insulation, check with a hobby shop. They sell an expandable foam for model railroaders. It's called Mountains in minutes, and consists of two chemicals you mix together, and it grows into foam. Per cubic foot it may save you money, even though that stuff is pricey.
Just an idea, because an aerosol can of that foam don't go far.

Put some D-Con outside in one of those boxes the pesticide companies put out.

At my work we used to have alot of mice a few years ago but now we dont have any. Every once in a while a pesticide company comes and puts D-Con (or something like it) in a few of those box things and there hasnt been mice in the building in quite a while and we have alot of food and garbage around (I work in a linen service and we get alot of food back in the dirty linen).

It may sound funny but we use to have a mouse problem in our tack room in an old cowboy how to book i saw a mouse trap and built one worked great.

a 5gal bucket drill a hole in the rim and put a small rod through it 1/4 will do

get a 1" dowl rod about 4" long drill a 3/8 hole through the center slide it on the middle of the rod

make a ramp to the rim

cover the 1" dowl rod in peanut butter and but the green decon pellets in the bottom

the plan is the go to the top to get a bite and the dowl spins they fall to the bottom eat the pellets and die. then you dont have rotting mice all over your barn sounds funny but it works.

After six months of hanging on the line(mice jerky) i took them down and sure enough within two weeks i had mice in the house.
Yes you will get some odd looks from people but who cares, it works.

Expanding foam works good as long as the siding doesn't need to expand and contract with climate change. Get the stuff called "Great Stuff". I always have the stuff on hand.
