Post Old 'Stangs

Does anyone know of a good place to find an older Mustang? I am preferably looking for 64 1/2 through 67. Any referrals at all: A website, local classifieds, anything. You guys have helped me out so much, that I figured you might have answers. Thanks in advance.

Hemmings seems to be a good place to start whenever you're looking for a classic or vintage car.

Question

Are you looking for a project car, or something already in relatively good shape? Also, how far are you willing to go to get what you want? There is a shop about a mile from me that always has several of the 1st generation Mustangs for sale, but they are usually badly in need of some TLC. Don't know what kind of price tags he has on them, I have just bought parts for mine from him. Of course, it is probably 30 hours or more from where you are. Other than that, I just bought mine out of the classifieds in So. Cal. many years ago. Also, I know there are some major car shows out there, and there are usually a few for sale at the show if you wanted to go that route.

Thank you guys for the links. I have been doing a lot of searching, preferably a fastback. I want it to run, and have a pretty decent body. Am I out of my mind in thinking that I can get one with those conditions for under $4000? I ask this only because those links have em going for like $10000 and up. Thanks again

You just gotta keep beating the bushes for that $4000 deal. They are out there, just harder to find. I bought a 67 convert. that needed minimal work (ie a little elbow grease) for $5000 and ended up selling it for about $12k. They are out there.. and I looked at a lot of turds before I came across this one.. My last one I bought wasnt even for sale until I asked. I had seen it sitting beside a garage forever, then finally went up and asked if it was for sale, turned out the guys wife was about to have a baby and he needed some cash fast.. sweet 69 Mach 1 for $6000. Keep lookin!

Mustangs

My son and I restored a '65 several years ago for his first car when he turned 16. Paid $2800. It was in pretty good shape already. Replaced a lot of little chrome pieces, carpet, etc.
Did a nice new, but inexpensive paint job and it was beautiful.
A real fun project for a father/son job. One thing about those older Mustangs, you can find every part you need, either re-man or new. We had a total of maybe $4000 in it. He drove it for three years until his grandfather bought him a new car for graduation. It took about ten minutes to sell the Mustang for $5000. Once the guy saw it, he said he'd take it. His wife and I insisted that he drive it. He went about two blocks, came back and handed me a check.
The Houston paper varies over time... sometimes there will be a dozen or more listed, other times only a couple. "Ford" Auto Trader is a good place to look.
I'm going to do another one some day.

Thumbs up

Ton of them for sale around here, some of them wrecked, some already restored, but it's hard to find a V8, most have the Sprint 200, and I'm not knocking the Sprint, I just like the V8 Fastback better. Even rarer to find a V8 with a manual, but there are a ton of them here.
http://www.tpost.com/tpost_1024x768.html is the link for the local trading post, most of them listed in there, but about a million more just sitting for sale, and if there isn't a lot in the trading post, check back, they update two or three times a week.
