Post Should Ford build this?

What do you guys think? I'm usually not interested in the retro like concepts, but this one looks clean. One thing you can't see is that the rear window runs all the way to the front windshield, with a divider between the top and rear window.

I say build it. That is one sweet looking car. Looks like it has a small pod or something for the speedo. Looks cool. Wonder what that bar is coming up the center of the windshield. The antenna maybe. It would be an easy car to wash and wax too. Nice smooth lines, not to many crevices to detail.

The bar up the center of the windshield if for the rearview mirror, which looks a little different. Here's an interior shot.

And an engine bay shot.

Rumor has it at around $40k, fully equipped. But Ford is only going to stamp out no more then 25k copies a year. Probalby be like the Vipers were when they first came out. People making the dealers offers of $75-$100k just to get on the waiting list first.....

Going to be a really cool car. Hope to get the chance to see one.

I saw the concept at a new car show here in San Antonio last fall. If memory serves, it's called The "49", and is based on the new Thunderbird. Was really sweet looking up close, although it was roped about 10 feet around it.

That would look sweet parked beside my Harley Truck. You can really see the Thunderbird lines in the car, nice too see another rear drive car.

Cool

That is a beautiful car.

Last week here in Sacramento, I saw an ad for a dealer taking orders for the new Thunderbird. I thought they were all sold out?

I didn't go check out the dealer, my car money has been spent, but I sure wish I had know the car had been available.

I would get on a list for one, I too believe it is called the 49. I don't think it would be as bad as the Viper if they plan on 25K a year. If i'm not mistaken Dodge only planned 300 Vipers for year one, then had quality problems with the hoods and did not even get to 300.

Beautiful car! I saw that on-line at one of the concept car shows.
Why does all the good stuff cost so much. It sucks being middle class!

Yes, it is called the "forty-nine", not the "49". It was unveiled officially at the North American International Auto Show here at the press release for Ford at Cobo Arena. (I was invited to it) I thought I had my up-close pics online, but I don't. If I can find them I'll post them...

IMHO, I think it's just a novelty... the doors are about 6 feet long! Just looks like an over-inflated T-bird.

The styling cues are from the original 1949 Ford, not from the new Thunderbird.

I normally don't like retro (aka pt cruiser, prowler, etc...), but this thing looks sweet. they should definately build it... they should go retro on the motor too with a carbed 429 or something (i know they cant do that because of the green freaks, but it'd be cool).
