Yeah but really all i'm wanting to do is re finish the stock/pump and re-blue the metal to give it a good looking finish. I'm not wanting to do anything crazy with it. It'll make a good first 'real' gun for me. As i've shot a limited amount of guns in my life.

You seem to want to shoot this gun. If you want to shoot it, you should probably have somebody check it out for you and make sure it's safe. Most of us are telling you to leave it how it is. If you're concerned about the value (I have no idea what it's worth), dont restore it at all. If it was me and it had sentimental value, I wouldn't change a thing. I have a .22 that I got when my grandfather passed away. When I was about 10 or 11 he'd take me rabbit hunting w/ it. I wouldn't change anything on the gun just because of the memories.

Just from reading the replies it sounds like we all had some great grandfathers.

I wanted grandpa's Pre-64 Winchester 94 (30-30), but it went where it was supposed to go,,my uncle. Still kills deer w/it.

that what my brother thought as well .He totally screwed it up . honestly you can't get a good re blue unless you send it to a gunsmith that does that kind of stuff. That reblue stuff you see a wally world is junk . If you want a newly blue gun buy a new one . But, Just listen to the guys here, There talking from experience.
