Post Pictures of a my project

Here are some pictures of the latest project I'm working on with my dad and grandpa. The bronze statue (Louie Kossuth) is about 7' tall and has taken about 2 yrs so far.

And here are some of the toys that we used to put him together.

Wow powerstroke - that is fantastic! Who sculpted it? Also, what's the other statue in the second & third pics?
I am really impressed - be sure to post the finished project!

The 2nd and 3rd pics is the clay model of the same sculpture. My grandpa is the one that sculpted it. We have to weld his sword here soon and then put the finish coat of protectant on him and then he will be done. Don't have much time left, have to deliver him on June 11th.

PowerStroke;
Who is Louie Kossuth?? I don't think I've every heard of him. And also if I my ask, who are you sculpting it for? Other than that, it is really cool. Have to be really proud of yourself to see something that you put so much time in finally getting to the final stage of compleation. Good job to you and your famliy!

Louie Kossuth is who Kossuth County, IA (where I live) was named after. He was a big shot I guess from Hungary. I guess he was kinda like George Washington over there. He was important enough that there are people coming here for the dedication from Texas and from other parts of the country and also the ambassador from Hungary will be there. All of us that helped with making it are going to a dinner with the ambassador the night before the dedication so I guess this was a pretty big deal.

I had no idea you could arc weld bronze. I always thought these statues were done as a single casting. I guess I learned something new right here on F150online.

Am I assuming correctly that the statue was cast? Did you use the lost wax casting method? Who did the wax carving?

How much bronze did you guys use and did you do the pour yourselves?

Dennis, yes we did use the wax casting method. Best way to do it I've seen. My grandpa is the one who sculpted it and me and my dad have helped with casting it, welding it, and will be helping putting the patina on it. We did cast the whole thing ourselves and it is about 900 lbs right now. We just got the sword welded on today so now we just have to shine it up and then put the patina on it and we're done.

Hey Powerstroke! Thats pretty cool! Thanks for the Iowa history lesson. Not the kind of thing too many people are doing in their shops besides working on their pickups! Sounds like quite a deal! You can be proud of your grandpa and your whole family includng yourself!
