BAD dealership...BAD
Well as some of you know, I had problems with the rear end in my truck. Among the parts that were replaced were: The ring and pinion, carrier, spider gears, bearings, etc. It ended up a new rear axel. Anyhow searching for parts, I went to the dealership to get some prices. For the ring and pinion they wanted over $700 that included nothing else. I ended up getting it from the aftermarket for $219, that included the set-up kit and free shipping. How can the dealership expect to get coustomers with those kind of prices!?! More then anything this is just a vent for those who have walked out of the dealership. I would like to hear some stories from everyone else.
Ford4Fun - what year truck? My truck had the entire rear replaced 3 months before I bought the truck - races, bearings, seals, gears - you name it. It was for metal shavings/excessive wear & was done under warranty I guess. I was just curious if the rear's in the 97's are known for this!
As far as the prices I agree with you. I wouldn' get a dealer part unless it was absolutely the only place that had it available. They must have enough people who can afford to throw $ away or just don't know better I guess to be able to sell parts to!
Thanks for your post - hope to hear from you soon. Bye!

Unless you know the parts people at the dealership and can get a "professional" discount, there's hardly anyplace that will sell parts for the top dollar that they charge.
On the other hand, there are some things that have the Ford brand on them that are cheaper. The Ford branded bedliner is one example of something that cost more at a regular parts/truck store than it does at Ford. At least in my area.

Well, the truck is an 88, It has the 10.25 full floating axel in it. I think that it is a little large and old for what you are looking for cowlady. Nothing else will ever be bought from this dealership from me.
