GM to end Medium-duty trucks... Chinese government says no to Hummer deal
From LeftLane News:
General Motors, which has quietly been seeking a buyer for its medium-duty truck line, says it will cease production of the Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC Topkick at the end of July. The automaker had not found a buyer for its medium-duty truck lineup after over four years of shopping it around.
Kodiak and Topkick faced extinction after the automaker announced that the factory where the engines were built in Tonawanda, New York, would close. Those powertrains were also used in marine applications.
The automaker had been trying to sell the line to Isuzu, but apparently those efforts have failed.
Their legacy will live on, however, as United States President Barack Obama’s Cadillac DTS-styled limousine actually rides on a Kodiak/Topkick platform.

I dont see that as a good thing at all. The economy is already up and its just getting worse. People need to stop worrying about brand wars and worry about people having a job...

GM is already nothing but a jobs program and it's their crappy business model/management that landed them in this situation.

The fact they spent four years looking for a buyer makes it crystal clear why they're in the state they're in. As soon as the medium duty line started losing money GM should have stopped production. Instead they keep pouring $$$ into it while they look for a buyer.

Saw a TopKick in the first Transformers movie. I wonder how the current events will alter GM's relationship with Michael Bay and Paramount. Don't think Hollywood is going to do much for Camaro sales, that's for sure. - Og.
