A buddy of mine, former Marine, has a small 4X5-in sticker on his bumper. It reads:
"For those who fought for it,
Freedom has a flavor that
The Protected will never understand".

At first, I thought it was kind of a put down (and I'm a vet, too). But then I cogitated about it awhile. It's all in the experience. Having "been there", I hope none of my brothers and sisters ever have to pick up a knife and fork to taste the bitterness of battle or arduous service. This is the finest country in the world (and I've been thru many) and very sweet indeed.

Memorial Day is just that. Thanks for picking up the tune, LoneWolf.
Peace.

Thumbs up

LoNEWoLF - how beautiful! I admire you for this post. Most people think of this as merely the start of summer - what a shame!
This will be the first year without my Dad & he was a proud Navy vet who deeply appreciated this day. You can be sure our flag will be flying in his memory & the memory of all those who served this country. I am hoping to go see "Pearl Harbor" this weekend as he served on the USS Missouri (during Korea) which now stands guard over the Arizona.
i hope all the vets who are still around understand how much they mean to us - I'm very grateful to all of you! Happy Memorial Day & God Bless.
