i just bought a 98 f-150 xlt,and it has the egg crate grill and color keyed mirrors. someone told me that only the lariets had theese items. were they available on non lariets? thanks for any help.

Egg crate? Like in the cross bars resembling a tic-tac-toe game? I've heard Lariat grilles referred to as 'Honeycomb'.

The Lariats and the XLT 4x4 had the same gille.

The sales information I have on my 2000 Scab XLT states that the mirrors are body color with the 4x4 package . . . not just on the Lariet. But, I think sometimes no one cares - I have Lariet floormats in my XLT . . . !

xlt 98, I would venture to guess that you also have color matching wheel moldings.

yes the grill is a criss cross design,it has chrome bumpers and color keyed wheelwell molding.it's a 2 wheel drive.thanks for the replies guys.

if he has the chrome bumper then he doesnt have the sport package. and if his side badge says XLT then he doesnt have a Lariat..

There was an appearance package offered on the XLT's that came with the Lariat grill and Mirrors but NOT the fender trim, unless it was a 4X4. They usually looked just like Lariats except the pinstripes went all the way to the tailgate and around to the other side of the truck. The wheels were the same in 97 And 98. The only differences between a fully loaded 97-98 XLT and Lariat was leather seats, pinstripe, and the wheel molding on 2WD's. Every other Lariat option was available on XLT. I had a 99 with that appearance package. It looked just like a solid white Lariat. Other options changed in 99 but in 97 and 98 even the steering wheels were the same on Lariats and XLT.
