Marine Speakers

So I have a little 18' boat and I desperatly need a stereo!

I was thinking of a head unit and a set of speakers.

Any suggestions?

Most of the head units put out like max 50Wx4 . I am looking for a pair of speakers that are not going be amped but will be be LOUD !!!!!!!
- feel free to suggest a head unit as well lol

Anyone out there who has marine stereo knowledge, Thanks!

and price range for the speakers around/under $200

I have all JBL components in my boat and it sounds great. JBL MR-17 headunit two 6.5s up front, and two 6x9s in the rear. In the past year or so, prices have gone WAAAY up. I originally paid under $175 for my entire set up, although I get it at cost. Now, the headunit is at least $130. But, it all has treated me very well. Sounds great and lasts great too. The speakers have all gotten soaked before. The headunit doesn't have a cover on it and although it isn't a waterproof face plate, it has gotten soaked in a rainstorm before while the boat was in a parking lot.

i've got an 18' bow rider.

about mid-grade sony head unit. only pumps 50wx4. i have (2) 6" polk momo (2) 6x9" polk momo in the back and (2) 6" jbl in the bow seats (speakers came with the boat).

this set up is very loud and crisp at volume. i have had people listening to my music on both sides of the river when i am beached on one side. quite a few people come up and ask where my amp is mounted. the bass out of this set up is pretty crazy too considering whats producing it. i also only paid $70 a set for the momos brand new. it was a sale but just look and you can get good speakers for cheap.

basically what i am saying is, you don't have to go crazy with the audio here. i have 4 speakers running off the front channel and they are still up to par. you don't even have to worry about a marine head unit, as long as it is covered. just don't get the cheapest you can find and get a good set of speakers and you will be more than happy.

also, the more expensive speakers usually can handle more watts so you can amp them later on down the road if you don't want to now.

Choose speakers with high efficiency if you want them to get loud off of little power.

The 7" midbass drivers in my truck were actually originally designed for marine use. I have over 400 watts on them though, they pound in my doors.
