garmin?
garmin?
I was wondering if a nuvi say 265wt or similar could be used inside of a jacket while riding a motorcycle? I have a hard time with spending 800 plus on the mc specific. i was looking to use this with blue tooth so i could hear the directions if/when i would use the system, or if there is a system that has a plugin for an earpeice that i could run inside my jacket. the reason i ask is the regular nuvi's are not vibration proof as well as not waterproof. i was more concerned about the vibration. the new units are so small i figured if they could get a signal inside my jacket i would be in. just curious.....thanks.

I wouldn't be concerned about the signal but I would worry about the shock and vibration. All of the GPS units I have seen are fairly delicate. I also doubt they would survive getting wet. Even sweat could be a potential problem.
But on a side note, it would be a bit difficult to tell if you are coming up on traffic problems b/c they are displayed only on the screen and not vocally.
I have this model BTW.
I have this unit. It will not get a signal from inside your jacket. It has to be in the open to get a signal from a satellite. Even driving under trees will reduce reception. The blue tooth will not work in a motorcycle.
What do you plan on doing with bluetooth? It uses a speaker on the unit which is difficult to hear in my truck. Not the speaker is not loud enough, it's just not clear enough.
If you just want to hear the directions though an ear phone, then you should look at a cell phone with navigation. They work just as good, only you don't get the screen.
You only get traffic displayed when the power cord is plugged in.

Good question. I don't know, I've never used a cell phone with nav. Maybe you can clip it outside of your jacket. I do think your best bet is to spend the 800. I've had navigation since 06, and it's well worth it. Your always in control of your own destination. The trip info valuable too because you always know how much further you have to go, and what time your expecting to get there. Plus you know how much further your next turn is, and if it is a right or left turn. Just go for it.

If you ask me my Garmin has led me astray too many times. It constantly pulls me off the highways on to back roads that I know are not the right way, well maybe the right way, but not the correct way to go. I would be afraid to use it if I was in an unfamiliar state.
Just get a RAM aqua box for it.
a Member at STN just did this with the same model Garmin

Don't bother with the in the jacket routine, not worth it.
The skin on the Aquabox is a flexible material, so you can still use the touch screen features.

sscully, a friend sent me the link. after all of this and more i found out this unit does not support bluetooth for headsets, only phone calls. i guess you need v. 2.0 or something. so the zumo is the deal maybe later in the year....still have a hard time with the price, but reading all it can do it is alot. why not make a basic zumo???? guess the money angle. half the stuff it does i would not need. oh well, by the time i would get the 265 and the special waterproof box and the hardware to wire it as well as a headset, i am well on my way to the zumo. thanks for listening guys.....appreciate it.
