Any Frequent Business Travellers Out There?

So I'm about to book a hotel in Glendale AZ online when I stumble onto the small print, check this out, LOL

$149.99 (USD) PER ROOM, PER NIGHT
TAX: 14.6% PER NIGHT NOT INCLUDED IN RATE EFFECTIVE 28 JUNE, 2009 THRU 2 JULY, 2009
CITY TAX-3.75 PCT; LODGERS TAX-6.5 PCT; STATE TAXES AND FEES - 4.35 PCT

So let me see if I understand this:
$149.99 for the room +
14.6% tax +
3.75% city tax +
6.5% Lodgers Tax +
4.35% State Taxes & Fees
======================
Does that look about right?

So my $149.99 Hotel Room is now
$198.18? Did I forget any other taxes and fees?
How about the Fee Fee? lmao

Holy frig off, geezus, I thought we had it bad up here with the fee fees and all the bs add-ons, you guys have it worse than us.

Thats some wild taxes man, they want your left nut for a hotel room.

You are double adding the taxes.

The total tax is 14.6, the individual taxes are where the 14.6 comes from.

Rental car is just as bad with the recovery fees, and airport concession fee, along with sales tax.

Here our municipal Government even adds and extra tax on restaurants for food, in addition to all other taxes. We also have property taxes, taxes on Groceries Etc;...
They all very city to city, state to state.

Thanks Scully, that makes it a little better.

I'm surprised they haven't come up with a "Mattress Tax", those places that rent by the hour could make a fortune.

They do, they call it "Lodgers Tax", and of course they only change the mattress once every 5 years

How do you drive with only 1 eye ?

BTW : Get a frequent rental profile setup, I think you can do that with all of them. You can set all the preferences so you don't have to do that.

It has been decades since I got off the after the 1st stop at Hertz, the last 5 I have made President's Circle.

The taxes applied to hotel rooms and rental cars are atrocious, and an easy way for politicians to generate revenue because the locals would much rather tax business travelers than tax themselves.

Lately cities have been using hotel and rental car taxes to fund new professional sports stadiums, which has caused a huge run-up in the tax rates paid in some certain cities over the past few years. Isn't the Arizona Cardinal's new stadium in Glendale? That may be a big part of your answer right there......

I travel almost every week, all around hte country, staying about 4 nights a week in hotels on average and renting cars for 5 days a week. Luckily I don't pay these things out of pocket but some of these things are rediculous and primarily designed for business travellers like me who don't pay for thingsout of their own pocket... the more touristy the area, the more fees you see like this... and if they are in the process of building a stadium or adding on tot he airport, expect to see it bluntly on your receipts... "stadium recovery fee - $4/night" that type of thing.

By the way, heres a good rule to follow when booking hotels... theres a bell curve if you are familiar with those... you pay for a cheap *** hotel you are going to get a cheap *** hotel with an uncomfortable bed, maybe you'll get cable maybe you won't, no breakfast, etc. In the middle is some of the mid-range to middle-high range like Hampton Inn's, Holiday Inn Express, Embassy Suites etc. where you'll pay a reasonable amount and get a good nights stay, breakfast included, all cable channels, internet included, etc. Then you get to some of the high-end hotels like the hilton's, radissons etc. where you'll pay $200 or more per night for the room, and have to pay $15 or more for breakfast, $10 or more per night for internet access, pay $20 or more for parking, etc.

106? Good Lord, my fat *** sweats at 70
Thanks to Bucky for pointing that our right away, he knows, haha.

I'm not 100% about this trip.
My wife's birthday is July 1st, and her favorite performer, some dude named Yanni is playing in Glendale, which according to mapquest is very close to Phoenix (12 miles-ish?)

Anyhoo, I'm thinking about surprising her by taking her down to see this guys concert, but first I need to know if she can get the time off work.

I've never been down there, but I'm sure there are a few 'must-see's while in Phoenix that can help fill a few days.

Regards
Habibi

July? The perfect month for our hottest weather!!! We should be around 110-115 typically by then. Glendale is a straight shot down the freeway to downtown Phoenix. Takes no time to get there (with no traffic, and watch for the speed cameras haha). As far as "must see's", I'm a native and cant think of any . If ya had the time the Grand Canyon obviously but thats far! Downtown is nice, some places to see. Or Scottsdale, lots of restaurants, bars and shopping. Other than that.....its desert.

You can always drive a couple hours north to Sedona to beat the heat.
