Looking for a decent car to do a frame off resto. Must be 1967 Mustang Fastback. Would like GT car, but will consider all fastbacks of this year. Will pay cash. Please let me know if any of you happen to run across one in your travels. I'm in no hurry, since I can't buy one until after the first of the year. Just seeing what's out there. Thanks all.

Hey lariat4wd, check this out

An all fiberglass body and front end for a 67 Mustang Fastback. The body weighs about 100lbs and the front weighs about 30lbs. These are strictly for racing type applications, obviously requiring a rollcage and possibly a tube frame front end. Just think of the weight you could knock off.

Start searching the junkyards for the one they used in "gone in 60 seconds" After they were done with it it needed a little work.

17!?!?!?!?! I hope not all of them were destroyed... I hate when movies do that to any car, not just mustangs..

I got a 65 coupe if you want to buy it. It doesn't run, but is in solid condition.

Thanks, but my intention was to recreate the Gone in 60 Seconds look. I love that car...or those cars I guess. I bought the DVD and it shows them restoring the car(s). The one at the end was actually one of the cars they used in the movie....just before they restored it. They only used 2 cars for close-up scenes. One was a real GT500. The rest were all clones...like what I want to build. They had one that had about 9 cameras strapped to it for the in car driving scenes. Nicolas Cage did almost all of the driving in that movie. I have a new found respect for that guy. They didn't hurt any real GT500s. That would be stupid. I have a while before I'm able to convince my wife to let me get this project, but I thought I would see how many were left out there that needed reviving.

Yeah, I have it on DVD also. I don't remember it showing the restoration of them tho. Now I have to watch it when I get home.

Yeah, you have to dig a little. It's in the bonus materials, titled 0 to 60. It's not the actual restoration, but they show a few clips of them working on the car(s). Just a common sense conclusion.

Lariat,

There are two places that specialize in Mustangs close to me. I know that one of them sells complete cars, think the other one mainly does parts. I haven't ever priced cars there, just bought parts for my '67 coupe. If you want more info on them, let me know and I will get you some phone numbers, although I imagine that you can probably find one closer to home.

Bad a$$ cam, headers, no cats, dual 2 chamber 3" flowmasters with aluminized pipes. Done. That's the way my 78 Trans Am sounded.

Yeah, my next project would have to be a 67 Fastback. But those cars are so scarce up here, if I did find one, it would be either 100% restored selling for $30,000 or one that needs complete restoration, and in dire need of a professional welder. The real problem with that fiberglass setup is that you still need the bottom half of the car in which you attach to the rocker panels, and most the 60's stangs floor boards are the first to start rotting out! Atleast around here they do. Or, I could just buy a custom tube frame chassis with the same wheelbase as a 67 fastback, and drop the fiberglass body on top of it. Sounds like a plan to me! Anybody have $20,000 I can borrow?
