Is Gibson Exhaust screwing us?
Is it true that the Gibson I have on my truck is not even built by them? Someone at a shop told me that they are not a manufacture but only a company who puts someone else's stuff in a Gibson box. He showed me a competitors muffler that they use for stock and it was a Gibson without the damn name on it. What gives? I paid hefty for a so-called Gibson. He also said if they really test their product, then why does a V6 truck have the exact muffler as a 350 and 5.3 and so on.
Any insight would help because I'm about to go through the roof and call them.

I don't have any info on who actually makes the muffler, but I did have one on my F150 for about a year and the baffle inside came loose at one of the welds and started to vibrate. I swapped it out with a Flowmaster.
I know of a handfull that had similar experience, but there are alot of people that are very happy with theirs.

First, I believe Gibson does design there's and I thought manufactured them as well but I could be wrong. Either way, do you know how many products you own that are not actually manufactured by the name on them? A ton!!
I wouldn't say Gibson is screwing anyone unless they claimed for some reason that they indeed own the entire manufacturing process and facility. Otherwise, you're getting Gibson's design and product whether they actually employee the person that bends and welds the product or not.
Also, you did know that they started out making RV exhaust right? It's very possible that they provide some OEM applications, of course without their branded name on it.

Just a thought.
