I just got this as an E-mail. It looks interesting but don't know if it would actually work. I don't go to Exxon and I can buy at Texaco instead of Mobil. I'll give it a go. What do you think?

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.49 is cheap. Me too! As it is now $1.58 for regular unleaded. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at less than $1.50, we need to try an aggressive response. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down! is if we don't buy it. But, that's not really a practical option since we all have come to rely on our cars. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together.

Here's the idea - For the rest of this year, don't purchase gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling, they should be inclined to reduce their prices - and if they reduce their prices the other companies will too. But to have an impact,we need to reach literally millions of users. But it IS... doable!

I am sending this note to 42 people. If each of you send it to at least 10 more ...and those 10 send it to at least 10 more ... and soon by the time the message reaches the sixth iteration we will have reached over one
million consumers. Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on, or one you compose, to at least 10 more E-mail addresses!

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO $1.28 - $1.29 AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

I'm not actually into the chain mail thing but if everyone at this site reads this I will cover 12436 people.

Well I was going to reply: The only way you can lower gas prices is to shop down the pole that keeps the dang sign so high in the air!

It may or may not work! But that will not reduce cost per barril! Because in the end it all comes from OPEC right? I got an idea, everyone buy a Honda Insight right now! LOL

 

In theory, it would work. In real life, it won't. As soon as the price goes down a couple of cents, people not participating in this "boycot" will buy the cheaper gas, negating the effects.

Besides, I don't think you could get enough people to participate.

It's a stupid idea. Probably started by someone who shorted Exxon-Mobil stock and thought they could get the price to drop. Almost as silly as the 'do not buy gas on this day' joke. The way to get gas prices lower is to not use gas! Someone should start a walk/bike/share a ride day.

 

Actually, the gas prices were rigged on the west coast.There was a week long article (5 parts) in the oregonian newspaper about it.Basically the alaska crude was being shipped elswhere to make a shortage of gas here and what do ya know the prices went up.I think there is going to be a trial in the supreme court sometime soon dealing with this. My bride pays my Mobil card! I can't boycott them because I will have to buy my own gas. (Unless of course I use the ATM or the Visa that she also pays......hmmm, let's see now, yeah, that's the ticket!)
