Cool Why we all need WD-40

LOL

I have been washing off some bugs from my car's front end with WD-40! Is this okay? Or what should I buy to do this?

I used WD-40 because I was too lazy to go downtown to buy something meant for that purpose!

I've been using WD-40 to get rid of bug grime for years. Never had any problems. I think it works better than Bug and Tar Remover.

Question

I never thought of WD-40 for bug removal! I keep it in my kitchen for when I run out of Pam cooking spray - found out the food may taste odd but it turns whatever I make into an INSTANT FLAMBE! Very impressive I might add! (Had to give the local FD a set of keys to the house - go figure!)

LOL@Cowlady (I hope you're doing a Raoulism 'cause if you're not, you're downright icky! )

WD-40 is also great for tires. Spray some on the treads and you can peform great burnouts! You think I'm kidding? Guess what stunt car drivers use for their burnouts in the movies? They hookup a can of WD-40 and run tubes to spray on the driven tires.

I just remembered something funny that involved WD-40. A Chinese guy called into the towing station where I used to work saying that his car wasn't running. Well when I got out to his car he had the hood up and he was standing in front of it holding a can of WD-40. Well what had happened was that his belts were screeching so he went inside to Wal-Mart and bought a can of WD-40 and sprayed it on the belt to make it quiet again. Well what he did was throw the belt off the pulleys and chewed it all to pieces. He had me tow his car across the street for the $40 flat rate we charged. Thats why there should be locks on hoods took keep stupid people from doing stuff like that. The funny thing is that the moron had absolutely no clue what he had done and was convinced that it was a bad car.

Hello Eph1fifty,

Chemical type cleaners (wd-40) are usually more effective in removing the remains of 100 M.P.H. bugs, stains, tree sap and tars. Avoid silicone-based products as they are not beneficial to paint and can cause problems down the road. Ask any professional car painter their thoughts on silicone products, and you will usually get a 30-minute tirade.

here are two broad classifications of solvents, petroleum distillates and citrus based. The quality citrus products tend to be gentler on the paint. Any degreaser/tar/bug remover will remove wax. So after you have rid your car of the remains of Billy bee, you will have to rewax the area. (What is the last thing that goes through a bee's mind as he slams into your windshield at 60 mph? ......His stinger.) Be aware that many of the popular over the counter tar removers are based on kerosene and may cause long-term damage to paint.

Personally I use a citrus based degreaser to remove all those little pests.

I hope that helps!

I use WD-40 to remove the silicon used to hang signs here at the hospital I work in. For some reason, with a little elbow grease the WD-40 breaks down the silicon. I'm going to give it a try now on the bugs that reside on my front end!

WD40 does many more things. We use it to start diesel engines when they loose their prime. I also spray it all over my dirtbikes before riding in muddy areas. As for cooking with it, I'll leave it to Cowlady.

Glad to see your back eph, howa bout joining us in chat again.
