Drove a Dodge Challenger today
For lack of a better place to put this.
I am a college student, and my roommate and i took a break from finals the other day and went and test drove sports cars. Im a 2004 f150 Fx4 scab, hes a 2007 mustang gt with some descent engine upgrades. hes 407 at the rear wheel.
We got in this 2009 dodge challenger r/t and I honestly was not impressed at all. It was a manual and we would floor it in 1st and 2nd, and its pick up was so lame. Honestly I really was not impressed with it at all. it was a 38000 car to.
My roommates mustang was 26 and he spent 3000ish on upgrades and when he guns it, it will for sure put you into your seat. this "hemi" sports car didnt do a thing for me.
Just thought id share, its late and I want something to talk about.

1. There is no way in hell your buddy has 407 RWHP with only $3,000 in upgrades
2. The Challenger R/T has the 390 (ish) 5.7 Hemi...my 325 HP 5.7 Hemi will light up my 5,500 lbs AWD Dodge Durango...and you're saying a manual R/T Challenger cannot get up and scoot...
I'll grant you that the thing weighs about 4,000 lbs...but it has alot of HP to overcome that
I love my Fords...but I'm gonna call B.S. when I see it. I love the 2005+ Mustang GT...but I'd be a happy camper with a Challenger R/T with stick..very happy

more like 307 RWHP
the 4.6 and the 5.4 are a major PITA to get power out of them. Longtubes, exhaust, tunes, intake, no cats, throttle body = about $3,000 if you shop around...but closer to $4,000 at retail prices...and he might be lucky to put down 350 RWHP
on a 5.4 3v, you can get tunes, intake, exhaust and maybe see a +30 HP gain
unless he got a blower for real cheap, sounds like your buddy is braggin'on a 5.4 3v, you can get tunes, intake, exhaust and maybe see a +30 HP gain

hmmmm , how can you compare a modded car to a stock car? stock is crap(dodge,Chevy,Toyota,Nissan)....even if it's 6000 RWHP , it's damn stock...

Ill take a Mustang any day over the new Camaro or Challenger

.....of course I'd also take (well, I did take) an F150, over a Dodge or GM truck, any day, too.
Peace,
Fish
You would be surprised. The '05-'09 GT's with the 4.6 3V will make great power. With a JLT intake and SCT tuner one of the guys that used to work with me made just a hair over 300hp. The same car with the same mods plus some BMR control arms and slicks ran 12.9s. Driver mod FTW
I've driven one of the 6.1L Challengers and it is a fun car to drive. It just needs to go on a diet.

The Camaro looks incredible and it has the performance to smack around the Mustang pretty bad.
Hell the V6 Camaro with it's 304hp engine puts out damn near what the V8 stang does.
14.4 ET for Camaro V6
13.5 ET for Stang GT

As for the Challenger, it is a heavy pig, but it moves. It is right at 2010 Mustang GT performance numbers, and traps a fraction higher at the strip. They both will come out at the end of the track at around 13.5-6.
Id definately take a Challenger over a new Mustang (especially the fugly '10) and wouldnt even consider a Camaro (ugly as hell).
Im not really a Mopar guy but the Challenger nailed the look they were going for. I'll take a white RT.

Spent Thursday night at Speed Street to see Jason Aldean. Walked into the Chevy display to see the Camaro and the Dale Jr. Edition Camaro.
So my question is, DOES IT MATTER? I mean current admin wants a collective MPG average of 35.5 so no more HP and no more CAPABLE trucks with out a BUNCH of cars that get like 80miles per gallon.
