I worked for a company a few years ago that laid down fiber optic cable. That stuff is so damn difficult to replace, not to mention expensive.

A local contractor was digging around for a foundation or something similar without calling 811 first and hit (more like barely knicked) one of our fiber optic lines. The total cost ended up being $250k+. He ended up selling his business just to pay for the damages.

We had a 24" natural gas line brake just west of Columbia 2 or 3 days ago. Some people say the flames were about 200' tall, no one was heart though. It was a cool site to see, I was like 8 miles away and it still looked like the sun was coming up and it was 9 oclock at night.
