Question Got the woman a Sunfire, anyone else own one?

I'm lookin' to do some intake / exhaust mods. to it as I have done on my truck, and was just lookin' for someone else who may have already done some things to theirs. I'm looking for the opinion of you fellow truck guys, rather than the teenage ricer type guys ya know? Thanks!!!

BTW, I've found some decent ideas on the net, in case you haven't found anything yet, and are interested.

I don't own a sunfire, but I do have a cavalier which is the same car under the sheetmetal. Mine has the 2.2L-4. Its a decent engine, just noisy. I hope they've improved it since mine was built in '96. You should be able to find a site for mods. I havent bothered since its just a daily driver for me. Good luck!

Hey man...yep, GM's J-Body. Sorry guys, just couldn't find an affordable truck for her, and I like Pontiac's cars, so...anyway, their is a fairly decent site, http://www.j-body.org Also, http://www.teamforwardmotion.com Appearenty, for $35 (for a cone filter) and one hour, you can have a 3" cold air intake that makes one hell of a difference. Have you seen how restrictive the intakes are on these things? BTW, mine's a 2000 2.2L-I4, so they may a little different. Lemme know if you want more info...I just removed the tuner tube, and will do the rest of the intake this Sat. Will do exhaust as soon as I get an idea of what it will sound like.

Will do man...lastnight I removed the intake, took out the tuner tube, cleaned the TB and IAT. Tonight I think I will just remove the "bong" from the fender, and cut the stock airbox so it has a larger opening rather than going with the cone since she doesn't want a muffler put on.

you guys should have looked into the ford zx2, there alot better, imo, than the sunfires. We test drove both and both agreed the z was much better. Fast as hell too... Also there are a lot of sites for zx2s. Sorry you had to buy gm

Hehehe...me too. We looked at them, but most of em' had LOTS of miles, overpriced, and too small. Believe it or not, the Sunfire is bigger.

YupYup, that's what I did Got lucky and found a 2000 ZX2 with 7000kms!

Find a ZX2 S/R for your wife, Jackal You get the Zetec engine, racing clutch, short throw shifter, lowered suspension, Borla exhaust, Air intake, K&N, nice wheels and wide tires for only 1500 bucks more than a ZX2... All this from Factory I think Roush helped ford with the S/R version!

I agree the ZX2 is small and with the electric moon roof it's even worse! But it does handle better than a Cav Z24! I do agree the Cav/Sunfire is a nice looking car though! The Focus was another alternative that I would have taken! The 4 door is nice, handles real nice and smooth (not as sporty as the ZX2) and the interior space is great and roomy!

Have fun with your wife's car! And take care

Thanks guys!!! I really like Pontiac's cars though too...had 2 Grand-Am's myself. BTW, she only my girlfriend, of 6 years. Hehehe...like the ZX2's, but...small, love the Focus's, but pricey, and she had to have 2 door. Too bad I couldn't put her in a 4x4 Ranger. Oh well...she runs hot now that the "bong" is out of it...you guys wouldn't believe it...if you get the opportunity, check out the silencer / resonator on the newer Sunfire / Cavaliers. It's crazy how many twists and turns it has in it.

One of my buddies, one of them a few years ago. He lowered it and put 17X8 wheels on it( 40 series tires,i think). It handled quite well. It was a pretty nice car till it met a chimmney sweep truck. He hydroplaned into the side of it. The ladder grabbed the car and didn't let go for aboiut 50 yrds (it happened on the freeway) when it did he hit the center divider. Damage assesment: broken passenger window (from the ladder) , severe damage to drivers front corner (from the diviver), the tire on that corner also popped, right rear axle bent up at a 45Degree angle.( apparently when he hit he divider this was the only wheel that stayed on the ground, and that was as far as it could bend)
Roof had an obvious bow from the body pinching when he struck the divider.Amazingly no one was injured at all. He walked away and so did the driver of the truck. only thing wrong with the truck(btw it was a ford) was the dents from the ladder being pushed into it. Needless to say the insurance totalled it.It was a fun car and if I were a car guy I would considere it.Not all gm products are bad (I used to have a beretta gt)

The wife has a '96 Cavalier like your Frank S - I do as little to it as I can to keep it driveable. Anyone changed the rear struts in one of these yet?
