Plumbing Hookup

I was wondering if anyone knew if there is such a thing as a low-clearance garbage disposal?

Currently, the waste outlet for my disposal is lower than the waste line for the sink. I suppose I could hook it up like this and the disposal would just be filled all the time. Lowering the stack for the sink isn't going to happen either. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I don't think there is such a thing. I would just eliminate it. I'm not a fan of garbage disposals for the a couple of reasons. If not cleaned properly, think grow mold, and stink. Another is i don't like to add any more substances down my drain pipes. I think over time it can build up in pipes and add to slow drainage. Good Luck...

I've been in this situation. What you can do is make a deep seal trap.

If you have a p-trap and not a drum trap, what you do is instead of using the street 90 that you would normally use on the outlet side of the trap, use a regular, or hubbed on both sides, 90 with a piece of pipe between it and the trap. This lowers the trap allowing you to connect to the outlet of the garbage disposer.

Here in MA I believe the deepest trap allowable under the State Plumbing Code is four inches.

Another thing that you can do is, instead of using the pipe that comes with the disposer, use a flanged tailpiece and come out of the disposer horrizontally. You will have to adjust the waste pipeing to make this work.

It can be done.
