The sheriff in my county drives a king ranch 4x4 f250 powerstroke. It was a drug bust and no one claimed the truck so they claimed lost title and got it. It has a sticker explaining everything about it, lol. We have numerous chargers (the county has the hemi and the city has the 3.7l). We have a few new suburbans for the sheriff. A older tahoe for the city narcotics. 2 county dodge 1500 quad cabs with the hemi. Some new crown vics and impalas for city. Highway patrol has crownvics and a burban.

Then the cops will just get the 6.2 Raptor and its game over.

and you would prefer the cops to drive honda civics or CRX's so they can increase thier response time when your house is getting robbed? and some wacko has a gun in your face ???

I know one of the Constable's had a H2 but that was his personal vehicle. He just put lights and magnetic stripes on it.

There are many variables with your questions. It appears your general assumption is that the Challenger provides quicker response time and that makes it worth the extra cost. How much quicker is the response time on wet roads? How much quicker is the response time through snow? (I would think it would be slower on a RWD Challenger in each case). How much quicker is the response time in heavy traffic, and does additional speed put surrounding motorists and pedestrians at risk of an accident?

How far is the nearest patrol car and how much difference would a slightly different response time make when someone has a gun in your face? Will it prompt the perp to shoot you and attempt an escape? Would it prompt them to take you hostage? Will it prompt them to give up? There is no way of knowing in this generalization. The one thing the scenario does bring up however is the importance of the 2nd amendment and of the right to protect oneself in their own home and not have to wonder when (or if) the police will show up and what kind of car they'll be driving.

A 4x4 down here for the drug runners is worthless. We've got brush down here so thick it'll turn a D9 CAT. The oil companies don't even both with CATS anymore to clear right of ways. They bring a mobile hammer mill. That's no joke. A mobile, twin engined, turbo charged, V8 diesels, on tracks, and the mill is about 12' wide. It grinds up brush, trees( what few we have) and rock. They finally gave up on the CATS as they just weren't enough to clear the brush. But if the drug guys get chased by the cops, they run as far as they can, run the car thru the fence as far as they can get which is maybe 100 yds tops, then get out and run. Usually a gun fight starts and then they bring in the Apache helos, rip a clip or so and everybody but the drug morons goes home.
Still, the Border Patrol, with their new butt rocket, is usually the first to show up. That's one mean running car and I have doubts that an early Challenger can stay with a new one including the famed 426 Hemi.
