Don't get too pi$$ed off.

If you used every Ford truck that has ever been built, you'd still need 8 or 9 Geo Metros to haul all the Chinese.

US Forces are not what they used to be.

I know Andrew but think of it this way - if 1 of their spy planes were "caught" here we'd be dismantling that plane w/in 24 hours. As for our crewmen, I pray they are released unharmed. Too bad we didn't have a "self destruct" mechanism on that plane or a way to downlaod any info in the computer memory so there wouldn't be anything for any enemy to see. I just worry about this "incident" being blown into a full scale military operation. I doubt we'd get much help from our Allies or the UN forces. Let's just pray Bush doesn't screw this up - he doesn't have the finesse yet to deal with something like this.

I guess this IS sort of a mini-crises. What I'm concerned about is Cheney's health in dealing with it. We all have to remember that Bush is 'just a heartbeat away...'.

What makes me even madder is that we were in international air, and the chinese were flying right next to it for 20-30min so close that an accident was bound to happen. Then blame us. We have been flying those missions for years over there. The Chinese are so "nuke selling happy" to other countries it makes me sick...i dont know why we give them billions every year! O well, I think ill have some icecream

Unhappy

The problem is no one fears us anymore. The rest of the world grew used to the US ***** footing around every issue after nearly a decade of soft left wing presidency. But now we have piddly little country's who's GDP is less than what I have in my wallet telling us what we can and can't do. It's time to set an example again with sheer might and force, and stop with the school girl slapping contests we've been calling military operations lately. And put some darn money back in the defenses for any federal congressional or legislative morons who may be reading this; grow a pair and do something.

<off soap box>

I read in the paper that the crew destroyed all top secret information and equipment before the plane landed. As far as finesse, I disagree Cowlady. If Clinton were still in office, he would enjoy this mishap. Unfortunately, this is a direct result of his military budget cuts.

Damned Clinton ! You old timers have heard it before (just after VN), of our Hollow Military. Here we are. Now we're being punked by 2B+ Chinese.
You know they've raped the unarmed EP-3 surveillance plane by now. Hopefully our boyz trashed the stuff before leaving the aircraft.
I'm pretty pi$$ed too! I almost want to go run over an LS1.
Here 'ya go Jiang Zemin

I think everyone is being too hard on Clinton. He was truely concerned about the Country's troubles during his term. There have been numerous reports of him actually moaning in the Oval office during the wee hours.

This is a good test for Junior. Now he'll see if Cheney's heart can handle the stress of an international incident. It's kinda sad though, that Junior is running the country like he was still Governor of Texas. We all know how Texas law set up the exectutive office. The Lt. Governor is more powerful than the Governor. It's almost like Great Britain where Elizabeth is the Queen, but the Prime Minister actually runs the government. Extreme example, I know, but you get the point.

Don't forget. It is a Republican Congress that has been in charge lately. Ultimately, they're the ones who spend the money and a lot of them spent the money on pork barrel projects in their home states instead of spending it on the military.

It's kinda funny, actually. When the Democrats had control, the Repubs blamed them for pork barrel spending and the Dems deserved the criticisms. When the Repubs took over, they did exactly what the Dems did. It's always a case of the "Golden Rule." You know, "He who holds the gold rules."

At any rate, the worst thing Clinton can be accused of is trying to cut down on military spending waste. Where he failed was, he cut down on the spending, but the waste continued. Over the years, the military learned how to waste their budget with the mentality that if they don't spend it all this year, they won't get as much next year.

I've seen this happen in all departments and levels of government. When it comes to the end of the fiscal year, they'll spend the money on stupid things like replacing perfectly operational equipment with new. Buy cases of paper that will turn yellow and get dumped before it will ever be used. Print a 5 year supply of forms when the form will be obsolete in 2.

Instead of spending the money on raising the payscale for the military personnel, the money is being wasted on replacing good equipment and supplies.

The military just doesn't know how to save money. How do you deal with somebody who doesn't know how to save money? You put them on a strict budget. Like I said, the military just doesn't know how to do it.

BTW, how many of you check where the goods you buy is made? Me? I check everything for country of origin/manufacture. I try to avoid all products made in China. The more Chinese made goods we buy, the more money we put in their cofers to use against us.

Almost every cheap plastic product, including kitchen utensils and childrens toys are made in China. Hell, the Chinese are going to make the new berets for the Army, for Christ's sake! Check the clothing labels. Chances are good that if it's cheap, it was made in China.

Go to KMart and look at the pots and pans with the Martha Stewart label. All the ones I've looked at are made in China.

I always look for a Made in the USA label on goods I buy. If a USA made item costs 20% more than a foreign made product, I spend that 20% because where would we be if we totally depend on foreign products?

The above is my opinion and I'll respect yours if you respect mine. OK?

Lets just put it this way. Reagan leaves office and not 1 military family is on food stamps. Clinton leaves office and nearly 50% of all military families are on food stamps. Not to mention a very bad shortage of spare parts. And yes I have 1 sister and 1 brother that served proudly under our Distiguished former president so I know first hand the truth about so-called wasteful military spending. Hard to waste when you never see the $$.
