What should I carry in my toolbox?
Hey guys so Im going to college next year and I am going to get a toolbox to put stuff in because Im going to be driving back and forth to home and school every other weekend and I wanted some input on what I should have with me if I was to break down. Thanks for any suggestions.
depends on what you are able to fix on the side of the road or in a dimly lit parking lot.
jumper cables (size 2 ga. about 25ft long)
can of fix a flat or proper lug wrench and a 3ton floor jack
flashlight
tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers)
tow strap (more for pulling other stranded motorists)
cheap plastic tarp ( something to lay on when raining)
if you dont have enough room just pack the essentials that you think you would need.
most people dont plan or pack anything that is what 24hour roadside emergency help is for

You can get one of those saftey bags, that has jumper cables, blanket, toe strap, small air compressor, small first aid kit.

What you want to carry depends on what you are willing to do in the rain at night, myself I am very bad about carrying tools, get it from my dad.
In the truck :
-2.5 T jack
- Gorilla Extendable Power Wrench w/ a set of deepwell sockets for changing tires ( yes plural, I have a set that will cover others as well ).
-Husky Tool kit from HD ( zipper case, about 8" x 6" x 2"
-Pull strap with the eye for the hitch, and a clevis pin.
-Jumper cables
-Knee pads
-Carhart Coveralls
-Wheel chocks
-seat cover
-rain coat
-Misc wrenches ( open end box end, adjustable wrench, pilars )
-Stop and go tire kit w/ compressor
-Fuses ( the little fuse kit from Autozone, be shocked how many people don't have these in their car )
-Short D-handle pointed spade.
-Superglue ( to glue cuts closed mostly )
-Nitrile gloves
-First aid kit
-Flashlight with batteries changed 2x year
-rechargeable flashlight
Sure I am forgetting something in the list that
Motorcycles are just as bad, again have dad to thank for that. If I don't have enough tools to do a top end on the side of the road, I don't have enough

Along with all of these gentlemens opinions, get a warm pair of cover-alls and boots, If you are gong to break down, it will be when your by yourself late at night when it is raining, in your best suit.
A couple boxes of em at that! haha.
Honestly I'd say for me the one thing I didn't need the most but someone else needed was jumper cables. I jumped a car full of girls one night at college haha. Then i jumped a buddies truck one day there at school too. So I'd say jumper cables or a jumper pack would be the #1 thing you'd need. Plus idk if its been mentioned or not but a couple pair of gloves wouldn't hurt either. In case you do break down you won't be getting the inside of your rig greasy or dirty.

Watch your storage temperatures with these. The inside of a vehicle can get too hot for storage, which could lead to failure.
When I had my tool box I carried the following:
Highlift jack
First aid kit/trauma bag
Snow shovel (I was living in Minnesota)
2 ice scrapers
Blanket
Warm gloves
Assorted tools
Extra oil
Bolt cutters (You never know
)
A plastic bag with extra socks and boxers (Again, never know)
Wheel chocks
WD40
Jumper Cables
Tow rope with D rings
Heavy Duty million candle flash light
Extra batteries for the 4 or so flash lights in my truck
I'm sure I'll think of more stuff along the way
