I haven't heard of any announcements what so ever. I've been trying to research the updates, but it might be Ford is being mum 'bout the '02's until after the incentive period (ends 4-2) while they try to off load as many '01's as possible before announcement.
You would think if there were MAJOR changes, the trade rags would have picked up on that immediatly.
The above doesn't make sense in some ways though, the '02 Explorer's are already being sold. That might be because of the Firestone scandal that went on (still going on).

Here is what I hear. For 2002 There will be little change. The changes all start in 2003. New body in 2003 will look more like the SD. New 5.4 3 valve engine for the 2002 Expy will carry into the F150 for 2003. The 2003 was supposed to get the 6 cylinder Diesel, but it may not make it.

If the diesel makes it I'll have one 8^)

Would that be the 4.5L I am hearing about?

I too heard that the F-150 was to be revamped for 2003.
I heard it is supposed to have more of the Sport-Trac roundness and big lines up front.

The diesel is the 4.5L. I sure hope it happens. I never heard too much about the 3 valve 5.4, but a little research on blueovalneews.com shows this...

5.4L 3V will feature VCT, dual spark plugs, IAFM, ETC with torque based shift, electronic returnless fuel system. 305-325hp, 365-385ft-lbs. torque. It will be mated to a 4R75W when used in the Expedition and to a 4R75W or a 5R100W when used in an F150.

The new body is said to look like the SD. I've not heard of anyone that has actually seen one though.

I hope they don't go the way of the Sport Trac. I like the looks of the Sport Trac, to be sure, but I don't think it's going to be a very enduring look. Very trendy. The F150 has never been about trends

The F150 has always held its looks well over time. I smile every time I see a 20+ year old F150 (or F100) on the road. Hopefully, the current model will hold up as well and look that good in 15-20 years. A truck is a truck.

15 years from now, I'm not sure we'll say the same about the Sport Trak.

And has anyone seen those god-awful plastic bumprails their putting along the bedrails of the standard bed of the new Ranger??!?! What the hell were they thinking? If I were in the market for a small pickup, I would absolutely not buy the Ranger for that reason alone! It's hideous! Probably some fired GM designer from the Pontiac Aztec design team . . .

15 years? I haven't liked the look of the Sport Trak from day one. I can't see this being a big seller for years to come.It is one very odd looking vehicle, but that is just my opinion. I'm sure they run just fine.
I think the best look for the F150 is right now with the new supercrew design..Of course I am a bit partial to it But have liked it from day one since they came out with that design over a year ago before I owned one.

Have you ever noticed that on some trucks it only looks good from a certain angle or distance from the truck. Well, the supercrew looks good from any distance or angle. The design proportions are near perfect IMO.

my $0.02 on the F-150 and Sport Trac.

The F-150 may end up little more like the SD, but how much? Obviously both styles are very popular. Word from my buddy at Ontario Truck Plant... when the 97's were introduced in 96, production of the old style 96 were still made for another year. Ontario Truck is scheduled to make the current style well into 2003, before retooling for the '03 style. This would have to mean a significant style change for '03 models, with '02 models still being produced in case no one likes the new ones(the 97 were such a change from 96). Will it look like an SD? I dont think so. If anything, expect an F-150SD (a heavy half ton) option to be sold along side the F-150 light duty.

Anyone have thoughts on this scenario?

As far as the Sport Trac, it should have been a 4 door Ranger, but this would cut into sales of the Explorer. As the Ex is still the #1 SUV in its segment, Ford does not want to lose those sales to Ranger (its all about bragging rights). If it was a 4 dr Ranger, it would look good, be equiped well and work its A** off like only a Ford truck can. My opinion is that a real truck needs rear leafs, not coils.

The Supercrew looks good because it is an Expedition with a bed instead of a 3rd row seat.

I finally looked at one up close yesterday, sitting next to an Expy and it is almost identical.
