Not active but have been with US DoD for more than two decades. Almost twenty years with USAF, now assigned to USN.

I was in until October last year. In all my long 4 years I was stationed (stuck) at good old F.E Warren AFB in Cheyenne, WY. The wife still has 7 months and we are counting the days until she gets out. I was a Network Engineer on the base, as is the wife. Not a bad experience, I got an unbelievable job with the knowledge I gained.

Active duty USAF, for at least another 5 months, lol. Nineteen + down. Haven't made the final decision to retire yet, however, it starting to feel like now the time to do something different.

For those who retired with 20+, how'd it feel after separating? Heard good and bad stories. Tell us yours.

Haven't retired yet from USCG after almost 24 years, but I've seen a lot of my peers leave and I keep in touch with a few. Most are loving life with their second careers. Nobody I know who is retired, is not working, but they say the retirement pay takes care of the mortgage and then some. I'm transferring to my home this summer and when the USCG tells me I have to transfer again, I'll probably retire and teach or greet people coming into Walmart.
