Question 60/40 split bench

This is my first post on this board - hope you can help with my question. I am in the shopping stage for a 2001 F-150 XLT Supercab w/ 4.6 V-8 - trading in my '93 Thunderbird Super Coupe. I have noticed two different types of seatbacks on the 60/40 bench. One has a tall back, and the other is a lower back with adjustable headrest. I have not been able to determine why some trucks have one type of seat and some the other. The window sticker/options list seems to be the same no matter which seatback type the truck has. Can someone shed some light on this for me? Thanks very much...

I haven't seen any of the newer trucks with the adjustable head rest I thought they all had the high back type seat in them.

I thought headrest only came with the captains chairs. Not sure though.

indeed the 01 models have some late changes on them, lariats and xlt's have adjustable headrests in their captain chairs and in the 60/40 bench. I think this is a late model change in prep for the 02 models, but i saw all the trucks at a local dealership last night that had them. They have 'more seat' behind the shoulders, for lack of a better description. My buddy just took delivery of his 01 Reg Cab XLT, and it has them. Bit different to look at, but they were quite comfy.

    SabinasHgo:

Haven't gotten that far yet. My SC only has 65,000 miles and is in excellent condition. I could get more if I sold it myself, but really don't want the hassle. I'm hoping to get at least $5,000-$6,000 on trade-in... I know it's worth more.

Thanks for the info on the seats, everyone...

    Thumbs up

rcj0618, I was at my dealer this morning and remembered your thread, so I checked it out.
In the bottom right corner of the Window Sticker there is a build date. I looked over the whole lot and the newest truck I could find with the old 40/60 seat was 9/12/00. The oldest truck I could find with the new 40/60 seat was 10/14/00. So, the seat was a mid-year change during the '01 run. The change occurred between 9/12 and 10/14.(at least at the Norfolk plant, as these were both Norfolk trucks). If anyone has an '01 with an old seat built after 9/12 or a new seat built before 10/14 then, we can tighten this 'window of change' even smaller.

Looks like I'll have to make a trip to my local dealer to see it for myself.

Well, hopefully this will help narrow things down for you. I have a 2001 XLT SC with the OLD 40/60 split that was built on 10/10/00. Looks like I missed the new seats by a few days. I really wish Ford would wait to make such a big change to their trucks. I can understand something that will go unoticed, and is mainly for mechanical purposes. But I wish that something this big would be made available to all 2001's, or wait until '02.

It would have been nice if they made the change for the 2000's that way I would have an adjustable one as well.
