Exclamation silly chevy numbers??

ok so i am sitting up to my father inlaws house, who happens to be a gm head and he has been reading truck trend magazine. they did a comparision of the 3/4 ton dodge, chevy, and ford. ok so he is gloating how that new duramax 6.6 diesel is so mighty and how it outpulls the dodge and ford. im thinking yeah big deal. so i open up to the article and yeah the posted numbers for the chevy are pretty impressive. 300+hp @520ft/lb tourqe while the ford is like 275ish and around 490 i think. well those are the stated figures. now in the next row down they have actual test figures and guess what. the ford is tops. it tested at over 520lbs of torque and over 300hp, while the chevy was at 490lb tourqe and much less hp than chevy claimed. they also did 0-60 times and the chevy was a little faster. yeah but the dodge and ford were manual 6 speeds with lt265s tires compared to a auto for the chevy and lt245s. unreal huh. chevy always has better stated numbers but i think we all know better. talk about not even being on the same playing field. and oh the chevy was a good 10,000 more with the duramax diesel.

Otterbob -
My uncle is looking into getting one of those little bowties for pulling his camping trailer....Because he likes the sound of having all that power....One point I made to him....It is the first year that the engine and transmission have been out....there is going to be problems with it. I have many other friends that their parents have the Powerstroke, and have never had any problems with them. I guess I am just more loyal to FORD...Which I should be.

I've driven all 3 brand 3/4 ton with diesel engines in the last 6 weeks. I know some probably don't want to hear this but the Duramax is impressive. If I had decided to go with diesel it would have been the one.

Question

I've seen several posts with people talking about higher dyno numbers on the Ford. The five speed auto in the Chevy may be the only think giving it better times. Even one of the DMax owners on another site admitted that at the power tour a Powerstroke got higher dyno numbers.

I have also noticed that the 5.3 trucks generally show 200-205 at the wheels. The 5.4 which is rated at 25 less HP generally runs 195-200 at the wheels. Is the tranny and driveline of the Chevy really eating up this much more HP? Could it be possible that Chevy is pulling a Cobra and over rating their engines?

Cool

Signmaster, answering your question, yes. GM has a history of doing this with their trucks. They usually look better on paper, but have less real world power. I don't remember the actual numbers, but they lose about 4% more power through the drivetrain than the Ford's do, or even the Dodges. That is why Ford usually puts out more power to the rear wheels. If you'll notice all of the towing tests where the duramax goes faster, they are comparing automatics to manuals, and we all know it takes more time to shift the manual in a superduty. There is a lot of speculation about Ford sandbagging their numbers as well.

The real test is quality take the same 3 trucks 5 years down the road and see who has the fewest problems and we all know who the winner is.
